General / Off-Topic Anyone else trying to buy a new Nvidia GPU?

So who else is trying to buy one of the new Nvidia 1070 or 1080 graphics cards? Or 1060?

Personally I'm trying to buy one of the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 cards. My main requirement is that it doesn't have the blower fan, second I'd like EVGA because they have good customer support. The Founders Edition with blower fan can be purchased fairly easily, but it is louder and doesn't keep as consistent of clock speeds, so that card is ruled out.

Almost had the EVGA one last week. The website let me add it to my cart and "checkout", but the site would redirect to the main store page after clicking the final confirm button. No order was placed.[cry] Evidently they sold out due to the demand, and the site couldn't update fast enough due to the influx of people all checking out at the same time.

I really want to play Planet Coaster. Rest of my computer is fast enough, just need a good graphics card. My current one doesn't even support DirectX 10. [down]

The Nvidia 1060 cards are rumored to be coming out soon. Those will likely be drool worthy in the cheaper $250 ball park.

Lucky enough to have a GTX 1080 founders edition, will wait for everything to calm down and purchase a second for SLI. It's a good card but feel a bit miffed that it can't deal with 4K, 100% on all titles, it's just short of doing it. Me being cynical, I'm thinking it's a clever nvidia ploy to allow for the GTX 1080ti to fully handle it and hence get more money out of us hard working gaiming fanatics.

I'm not in the market for any of the new cards, since I bought my EVGA 980 SC about a year ago. But I totally recommend EVGA, the customer support really is top notch and so are their products. I actually have an EVGA power supply and motherboard to go along with my gpu [tongue]

If I were you I would wait it out and get that 1080 FTW. Don't get impatient and get one of the blower style ones.

How does the 1080 play Planet Coaster for you? My screen is not 4k, but it is higher than normal at 2560x1600. My CPU isn't as fast as yours, but I am sitting at 4GHz with 6 processors behind it. Maybe I'll have some slow downs from the CPU in large parks, but otherwise I should be more than good.

Only wish I didn't have to work, so I'd have more chances to pick up one of these cards.[haha]

Little concerned about my Corsair 620HX power supply. Should be OK for the 200ish watt power pull, may have to buy two 8 pin adapters, since I think it only has a 6 pin.

Yeah those overclocked 980 cards are nice. Saw an EVGA 980TI super overclocked card go up on sale from Newegg for $400 and nearly bought it. The 1080s are only somewhere in the realm of 15% better when they are both overclocked.

[up] I think I just sniped one. Straight from the EVGA store! So excited. Should be here next week!!!!!![big grin]

Need to look into my power supply to make sure all is good on that front. Yipeeee.

Have to get some of my old photography lenses I don't use up for sale. So exciting. Will learn how to both program graphics cards and play planet coaster. So awesome!

Your right it only has one 6 pin power connection. I'm using the corsair 1000W Gold as I originally had two GTX780TI SLI so my power supply more than covers the 1080. Planet coaster is running very smoothly for me but I must admit I haven't placed all rides yet. I'll test it this weekend to see how well my rig copes and pass on the results.

Evidently I got lucky and my Corsair HX620 has 2 8-pin connectors(based on the date I bought it, it was iffy). I checked with my current graphics card the ATI 4870, and when I load the CPU and Graphics Card fully I'm pulling 475 watts from the wall. The 4870 uses about 150 watts. The 1080 uses about 180 watts on average, but when overclocked it uses 210 on average, but can peak into the 300s.

So I can plug the 1080 in, but I really should be buying a new power supply soon, since I'll be bumping right up to the 600watt marker if Planet Coaster fully utilizes my CPU and GPU.[money]

I really can't believe that I lucked into the card yesterday. I hope others have similar successes in buying the cards they are looking for.[up] Add yourself to the email notifications, on the product page, they work.

nice, which version of the card did you end up getting?

Congrats, I gurantee you now have the upgrade bug. I went from upgrading graphics card to a whole new rig. Enjoy the card when it arrives.

I picked up the fastest clocked version, with two 8-pins, and two bios chips the 08G-P4-6286-KR. Best EVGA 1080 card at the moment. Figured it would help with resale value in the future, if I ever sell it. From a performance standpoint, all the 1080 cards seem to be overclocking to the same 2.1GHz, so buying this card didn't help me get any higher.

I used that EVGA power calculator and it showed a bunch of 650 watt power supplies. Maybe my 620 would work, but I might be pushing it too hard since it is 7 years old now. I will keep a close watch on my power useage with my Kill-a-watt meter, that I plug between my computer power cord and the wall outlet. If I see 575 watts used I'll immediately get a new PSU.

I think I'm 3 generations of Intel chips behind. If I upgraded right now I would not be able to afford a new 6 core chip, so I'd loose that. But I'd gain the ability to get to 4.6GHz vs 4GHz, and the processor would likely be 30% better per clock (normal improvement per generation is about 15% if my memory serves right from the reviews I've read.). Would be a huge expense for relatively little gain.

If my motherboard dies, I'd look into it, since a replacement for my board is $250 even used because people want them for builds with this 6-core Xeon chip I'm using. If I could get a doubling of performance I'd strongly consider it, but that -- I think -- is still a few years off. Maybe the first 12-core chip that gets to 5GHz.[money]

So close, so close, to having the card in my hands.[woah]

Trying to get some other projects done, so when I binge on PC for 6 hours straight Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I don't feel so bad.[haha] And maybe a few days following.....[mouth shut]
