Anyone else watch movies with a buttkicker?

Such an edge case but I thought this might be the place to ask. I've been space trucking more lately, so I like to have "dash" windows open from virtual desktop (oculus). My sound in windows is set to my audio jack which is hooked up to my buttkicker. In oculus settings I have audio mirroring turned on so I get my regular sound through oculus headset + buttkicker.

The problem is when watching movies, the bass from the movies is often more frequent than the actual game, so I get more vibrations that have nothing to do with what's going on in Elite... Is there any way to ignore these sounds? since everything is being played through Oculus I'm guessing not, but worth a shot. Thanks!

Have you tried going into your sound settings and going into the advanced settings? Win 10 had an update some time ago that let you route specific apps to specific outputs. It might be worth a shot. My Oculus mirror wouldn't work properly with Elite so this is how I got mine working below.

I don't have a buttkicker so I don't know how it is tied into your system. I have a custom setup using a couple Aurasound transducers. I watch football games and listen to music often while playing ED.

I use a program called Voicemeeter Banana to mirror the game audio to my Rift headset and transducers. I then just go into Windows 10 advanced sound settings and set the app I am using to only use the Rift headset. This way the only audio that is routed to my transducers are the game sounds.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I actually used to use voicemeeter banana but Oculus basically does audio mirroring by default (can set it to mirror audio in settings in Oculus app), but it's definitely worth taking a look at advanced sound settings, I'm also going to explore just using the equalizer in media player to soften up the bass from it.

Yes, I do. My BK is setup on the Sub out on my onboard audio. I then have Oculus / SteamVR setup to use my onboard audio and not the HMD, Windows 10 is then configured to mirror my audio to my HMD. This means I can use the standard Windows levels to raised or lower my sub channel level and only effect what is going to the BK. Works great for watching movies as you have more control over the sub channel.

In fact I even wrote a app which monitors a combination of my HOTAS buttons and Elites log files so it can raise and lower the sub channel levels depending on whats going on in game. The levels are all configurable via a GUI.

Depending on what app you use to watch your movies on, you may be able to mute the sub channel in the apps equaliser.

Ok, but that only works on software side, when you don't use a 5.1 surround system like me (that i also use in VR, because that 5.1 system is for my PC, where i also watch movies - don't have a TV since near 20 years). So I use the sub out on my 5.1 receiver to get the signal for my buttkicker, but because it is split to buttkicker and my subwoofer before the amplifier of my subwoofer I need an extra small amplifier for the buttkicker only (and before that is this bass filter device, because the normal sub get still higher frequences than a buttkicker should use).

First is solved my problem with a good second soundcard for my 5.1 system and use the bader onboard for my buttkicker and also use mirroring to copy the sub to the onboard, but there was always a noticeable delay on the mirror, so the buttkicker reacts to late and it didn't feel that good as it could. And also i could use it that way only for my PC stuff, not for my PS4 and BluRays. That's why i use this more hardware solution now and no mirroring anymore.

But i don't know if this delay still exists, that time i used Windows 8.1 and maybe it was only because it was between two sound cards. But it is clear that mirroring must have some sort of delay, the audio buffer must copied over to the other output.

hmmm without getting additional hardware, I tried setting windows media player to use another audio out (usb headphones), the sounds works just fine in the background while I'm in elite, but as soon as I bring the wmp window into elite via dash, it stops using the buttkicker (which is set to be my default sound device via sound settings in Windows, I use rift settings to mirror audio)

As soon as I close the window out of elite, I once again receive buttkicker feedback.. :-O I had thought about tinkering with the wmp equalizer, might try that next

@CylonSurfer with that setup wouldn't reducing bass levels via subwoofer controls reduce bass from both the movies and elite? Only trying to reduce movie bass input

edit: pretty much same result with equalizer for wmp, turned down bass and it for some reason affected elite sound as well, ah well

I make setup a 2 weeks ago and watched "Die Hard" and "John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum". Wonderful experience, I must say. You can go for discount coupons also for software and accessories... visit this site reecoupons. I personally shop through this coupon site. For others who don't have any idea, it is a bass transducer and gives great assiduity to games such as Call of Duty and Assetto Corsa.
