Anyone figured out the 'Caustic Sinks'? Check your Synth choices

I am not sure where to get a couple of the ingredients and I do not know what or how to use the caustic heat sinks? Anyone else figured it out. I was going to synth more heat sinks and for some reason I scrolled through all the options, new option towards the bottom of the list for me

They've got to be something to do with the caustic damage you take when you enter the maelstrom, surely?

Yep, those two mats are in the caustic cloud, which melts ships pretty quick

Wait, am I blind? Where are caustic sinks? I don't see them on my ship synth menu in Odyssey?
Also what do they do?

My guess is that they represent an ablative hull add on that provides a certain number of temporary hull hit points.

They probably get eroded before your hull takes damage.
