Anyone fly an Orca?

It looks posh! But is it any good?

I'm saving for a Python, but thought the Orca might be 'different'. But does different = rubbish?

I plan on buying one and kitting it out for a grand galactic safari..in style dont you know.

also just so i can see what the bridge looks like in the occulus..lol

I fly the Orca. I've been using it as multipurpose and it has suited those jobs just fine and can take down anacondas and pythons at a RES. It's decent but it's not the best in any of the trades.

Python has stronger shields, armour, more cargo space and 2 more hardpoints than the Orca. Most people choose python because it is simply better.

I didn't want the python for it's amazingly slow turn rate and top speed, I didn't want the clipper because it had to use gimballed weapons and I didn't want an FDL because it is a combat only vessel with no other purposes. So I took an Orca and I am definitely happy with it

I'd say go for the python if you are saving to it, you'll make money easier in a python rather than orca.

Thanks!

I like that this game can I attract you to use a ship that isn't the best statistically but has enjoyable quirks. The mark of a good sandbox game!

I thought it might be a 'nice' ship to go exploring in, but playing around with shipyard it looks like the jump range is poor.

Yeah, jump range is not great. I managed to get make a trip to barnards loop and then to vy canis majoris, but that's about it. I think Clipper, FDL, Python and Orca all have rather poor jump range

Bought one, spent a few hours with it and sold it. The ship fly's like a fighter jet..It's supposed to be a cruise liner :/ Dev's really need to sort out the handling on some of the larger ships, it's a joke. T9/Conda/dropship are the only ships with some weight behind them.

That's like telling BMW that the 750 is overpowered and should be more sluggish, I suppose.

Speed is not the issue, the handling is wrong. It's like BMW building an X5 that handles like a M3.. just ridiculous. Screw that, it's like BMW making coaches that handle like an M3..

I'm a happy Orca pilot myself.

Perhaps because I'd somehow feel most comfortable with living in an Orca "in the real life", if I had to choose from one of the ED ships.

The ship has poor jump range and other limitations, is large and quite expensive for its level of practicality, but it's sleek looking, fast, and gracious. And the view outside is very nice, especially when exploring. If you're not in a hurry...

It is very quick but doesn't have the firepower of a python, cargo capacity of a python and pythoness of a python.

It's a Orca... the clue is in the name....... it's not a Python :)
