Thats a great video, mate. And there is a lot of truth in it. Even today marketing perspective is still the same and very few people risk to go over "what sells". We know very well what sells - shooters and RPGs probably the biggest selling genres in today's games. But if not for David and Ian we may have never known that there are other possibilities. Only because of always pushing forward minds like David's and Ian's who wanted to make something out of the odinary we are where we are right now. And gaming world may have been even more exotic and deep if big publishers didn't push the hand of the bright minds like David's.
I am glad that there is a new movement now out there where developers go around the big publisher and try to raise money on their own through independant projects. Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity: Original Sin are few of the best examples that "different" doesn't mean bad. I wish more devs would allow their brains to work in 'different' directions than what todays 'standards' of the games are.
