Anyone know what this star cluster is

Anyone know what this star cluster is?

if this is true, it will usually turn out to be NGC 7822:

Here's a drinking game for the exploration subforum. If you have any suggestions for new rules, by all means post them!

Drink a shot of your drink of choice (default: tea) every time when:
...
- "What are those strange lights in the distance?" (Usually turns out they are NGC 7822)
...
Please be mindful of your health, and drink responsibly!

cheerio!

No, I'm further away than that, currently in SCHEAU PHOE YZ-W D2-11. here's a view from there. So it's not NGC 7822

That close to Heart and Soul I would think IC 1805 was more likely than NGC 7822 - if you look at the pic it's a lot less linear than NGC is, doesn't have an associated surrounding nebula (IC 1805 Sector DQ-Y e3 does have a nice little planetary nebula to check out, though) and given the apparent size and brightness is also much bigger than NGC.

Oooh that looks nice (IC 1805 Sector DQ-Y e3) Now on my "To Visit" places. But it's not the same system.

Could be NGC 869, that's in the right direction

Unfortunately it's not that either? If only the Galaxy Map was easier/quicker to scroll around. I'll endeavour to try a little later. The problem being that although the general direction is correct I have no idea o how far away this star cluster is..

filter the galaxy map for o and b class only .... most clusters have a high density of those.

cycle left hand systems, till you find one directly matching the direction.

take you current coordinate, jump to the matching systems, calculate the angle from coodrinates and distance, and scroll into that general direction for a o/B-class star cluster...

It's refreshing to see something that's not NGC 7822, heh.
But yeah, if you can't find a cluster on the galaxy map, you can always start heading in its general direction, and not how much the spacing between the stars increase as you get nearer. Or, to put it another way: if you don't know what it is, go there and see!

That appears to be correct 550 LY's from my current position, I'm going to the Heart and Soul Nebula first then I'll mosey on over there. Thanks greatly.
The pleasure was mine. After I was wrong the first time, I was like 'meh', but goemon brought it back up and I thought 'ok I NEED to know what this is now', damned curiosity

Oh dear, we need a new rule: Drink two if it isn't 7822.

I think I know that one, but I'm not near my logs right now ...
