Ships Anyone made a good eagle build?

Ive been messing around with the eagle in coriolis and it really seems like there is nothing that the eagle really offers that another ship doesnt do better. Anyone have a good eagle Mk II build and a good experience with it? The biggest problem I have is its low power supply which really limits weapons when using enhanced drives, a problem fixed in the iEagle. Doesnt seem like theres much of a reason to use the standard eagle when the iEagle does a lot of stuff better and still has good manuverability.

What really limits the utility of its enhanced drives is its small distributor.
Vulture matches it in maneuverability.
Viper III beats it in speed because it has a better distributor.

It's like the Sidewinder. A stepping stone.

I haven't flown the Eagle Mk II in a really really long time, but I remember liking it, fun to fly. Compared to what my iEagle can do though?

I'd go with your gut and get the iEagle.

Just my opinion though, mileage may very, etc. etc.

no other ship is better at being an eagle than the eagle ;-)

true, the imp eagle is an upgrade (for posh imperials with inferiority complex, i guess :D) but the eagle has the best turning in game.

engineers to the rescue. i'm just building one with almost everything light weight, 3d g5 fsd gives about 17ly jump range, a2 overcharged plant, g5 dirty enhanced perf drives, g5 charge enhanced distributor, 2d shield ... the thing is already pure joy to fly, and when ready (soon) will boost around 680 with one turreted beam and 2 fixed multis.

it could go with a d2 overcharged plant, or a2 low emissions, but a2 allows for a secondary build, pulse turret with emissive and missiles.

what a little ship!

Oh i should've mentioned that this thread was more for curiosity sake, I already have other ships capable of combat including a newly purchased iEagle which is slowly becoming my favorite BH ship (oh my God the speed).

I feel like they should take a second look at the eagle, its such a neat ship and I love its looks, its just a shame it currently has so many barriers to make it a really proficient killing machine. I think my other issue I have with the eagle is that it only has small hardpoints which really limit its dps and weapons options. Now I know engineering on the weapons can fix a lot of those problems but it would be nice to be able to mount something a little more substantial without having to use such high power draw weapons to offset the low damage.

The iEagle took a big hit in terms of maneuvering and heat, I would take advantage of that in the Eagle MK. II by strapping a rail gun on top and two pulse lasers underneath, go for a 3C Bi-Weave, 2D sensors, 2D life Support, A rate everything else then strip the optionale of everything except a fuel scoop and Intridictor...finally do not upgrade the armor or add bulkheads, you need to use the maneuverability of the Eagle to stay in your enemies blind spot which the MK. II does much better then the iEagle, you'll have to do some power tinkering but you should have a very good ship now to take on...honestly everything when flown right (oh and add a chaff launcher just for when mistakes are made)

i'm running my eagle with 3 engineered MCs (one incendiary, one corrosive) to come around the small powerdistributor.

love the manouverability and the strong lateral/vertical thrusters - there is no ship beating the eagle at that.

Sweet Jebus, I know what you mean. I keep hearing people talk about the iCourier for raw speed, I mean maybe? But yeah, the stock Eagle needs some love.

Amen brother. To the "Eagle Choir" *Waves* I am the one to whom you have preached.

The iEagle is pretty much better in every way. We'd like to see that changed?

Or am I reading the room wrong?

Either way, LastZeroFighter, get that iEagle. This is my PT boat type build: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/imperial_eagle?code=A0p5tzF5l0d5s8f22i2h2h032tB5-0000.AwRj4ySA.CwRgDBlZIkA%3D.H4sIAAAAAAAAA2P6J8bAwPCXFUiILuZmYFA%2BJMvAIHERyOf%2F%2FOf%2Ff5EwIPGf%2BZ8UTJHQch6g1N%2Fv%2F%2F9LJHMyMIhUCTEwCOsCJf6z%2FrMCKWIGEpydvAwMXO1A9aovgfrVFv79%2F1%2FxHpBQ0v8FNI7jXxhMpdCkV%2F%2F%2F8%2Ft%2FBhrnwsLAwOYONPg%2FJ0SeBSSf%2Bxgof%2FMNUF4YqJXt9s%2F%2F%2F5V9QYbw%2FvOBuUlC9iPQpf5AUSFWIIt%2Fwtv%2F%2F0WVmBgYpHlBDvsPAHlypqDkAAAA&bn=FNS%20Shrike

I love my MkII 'Starscream'. The eagles are really the only ships in Elite that truly give a fighter jet type feel in the cockpit playing in VR.

Mine is engineered to the max which negates any issues with power etc and I'm running 3x G5 overcharged enforcer cannons, one with corrosive and TBH for it's class it packs a punch.

Other ships can out do the MkII at any task but it's still a really fun and cheap ship to fly. Combat in ED can get too easy in the bigger ships so taking an Eagle out for some bounty hunting is like using a light weight fishing rod, it forces you to be better and know what you're doing.

the Imperial Eagle isn't better than the Eagle in all ways. The Eagle has an undersized distributor and it doesn't have any Medium weapon mounts which sucks, but it turns really well. Use railguns I guess? I haven't built a combat viable Mk. II yet

Turning well is about its only strength, and with enhanced drives the iEagle will turn just as well and still have enough power to mount decent weapons without needing any engineering. The issue I have with the Eagle stock is that its powerplant is too small to effectively compensate for its small hardpoints. If I want to use enhanced thrusters to give it any sort of speed, I will really have to budget on the energy department which severely limits my loadout options.

I tooled mine up for speed and ditched the weapons and utilities.

Before this...

I used to practice combat in it, but it's defenses are just a bit too weak.

I've heard of a few builds, torpido boat and as a silent runner though.

After watching the film Dunkirk, I wanted a Spitfire like WW2 ship, and I got it with three rapid fire Enforcer cannons with incendiary and corrosive.

So, has anyone tried a full railgun loadout?

I'm toying with the thought of buying an Eagle and challenge myself to get better in combat. I'd also consider taking it for an exploration trip.

Love both the Eagles. I’d have to lean towards the iEagle as I think the extra speed suits its role in a High RES better (tagging big ships to alert the cops and then pretty much teleporting out of harms way with its insane boost). I’ve never fully engineered one but I’ll get around to it eventually.

I one fit a turreted beam laser on the top of an Eagle and swanned lazily around a res tagging all the wanted ships letting the beam secure all the bounties from wings. You never get targeted because you’re not considered enough of a threat.

They also make for fun light exploration ships with the 2xclass 1 internals, go racing through the twisties on the planets you find.
