Elite crossed with Asteroids, 2d, with a 3rd person view!?

I wonder if Frontier have any IP associated with the Jameson name....?

these games just remind me of documentary "inside human body" and i can't take them seriously, but probably that's the intention.

anyway that one is not for me :)

Hi,

I dont believe so as I'm sure I've seen Captain Jameson as a character in the pen and paper Traveller RPG which precedes even Elite.

I think he is an example character you follow when you roll your Player Character.

I love indie games and this seems right up my street, will be picking it up when it hits steam.

Thanks for the heads up on this one.

I've seen that yesterday. Looks like a fun little game to kill some time :)

Was also wondering about the name they chose!

Reminds me of Nomad X

Although DB flatly denies any references to The Traveller it's well known Ian Bell was a huge fan of the game at the time. There is clearly a little bit of 'inspiration' going on. I think I read somewhere that the makers did threaten legal action when they were considering making their own computer game based on the RPG but Bell wrote back and said something like "well you'd better not be using any 3D graphics" or something and nothing came of it.

No shame in ripping off board games though, Sid Meier pretty much made a career out of it.

Thanks ZeeWolf that is an interesting piece of Elite canon, I always wondered if there was a link somehow.

So to think that a little known pen and paper Sci-Fi RPG helped spawned the Elite Franchise. old school RPGs are just too cool, everyone should have a go at it.

I played Traveller quite a bit in my time. The character generation was great fun and the personal combat was dangerous. We made it even more deadly by using the Pheonix Command personal firearms rules. Firefights were devastating and avoided at all costs, made for some great role play though.

Anyone else play Traveller?
