Anyone tried the new i5-12600k in VR yet

o7 all
I was looking at upgrading my gfx card from a 2080 to a 3080, but at £1000+ I cant justify the cost. Alternatively, I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU and mobo from a i7-8700k to the i5-12600k & new mobo. It'll cost about half the price and I'll get ~£200 back when I sell my current kit on ebay. So ~£300 for the upgrade. Not bad.

Anyone got any experience in Elite in VR using this 12th gen CPU? Have you been able to bump up SS etc? What increase in FPS did you get? Everything smoother? etc

Thanks

I don't have a 12 series CPU. I'm on AMD (Ryzen 3950x). I do play in VR, Reverb G2 running on a RTX 3070 OC. Before that I ran ED on the same PC except that the GPU was a RTX 2070. I saw a significant performance boost when I upgraded to the 3070. Also, when I check the CPU usage while playing ED, it's not the bottleneck.

The new 12 series looks nice though. It seems to use a lot of power, and therefore produce a large amount of heat, especially because the surface is small. I'd personally wait. Your current CPU is still very capable. So is your GPU.

Finally, update8 has brought significant better performance to Odyssey. If they continue like that, your hardware will be more than enough.

Oh, one more thing. The 12 series seems to only go hand in hand with Win 11.

Unless you're being bottlenecked by your current CPU , which I don't think you are the i7 8700k is still a very decent CPU from what I know, then upgrading won't help your performance.
If you want better performance you'll need to upgrade your GPU.
