Anyone tried to do that interstellar docking scene?

Made a new friend on ED yesterday and he said "Do you want to do that Interstellar docking scene?" and i was like ok sure we spent 30 mins trying with assist off man its so hard. tell me if you guys have tried it.

I think ship to ship docking would be an awesome idea to add to the game. See my post https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=143183

I love the movie interstellar. Imagine finding abandoned ships floating around space that you can dock with. The abandoned ships would be adrift and some would be in a flat or roll spin that you have to match in order to dock with it. Once docked, you could loot it.

It wouldn't have to be only for abandoned ships. You could also dock with other CMDR's ships. This would allow you to trade with the other CMDR.

Just dreamin'

So what turn off both rotational correction and flight assist and then try to land?

Or just trying to match up spin between 2 ships?

I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be in the game anyway - there are official vids on ingame cinematics whereby a player goes to a derelict ship and docks with it - then gets set upon by other ships (players or NPC's I have no idea) let me see if I can find it... Hmm can't find it now but I'm sure I saw something very much like what you are describing.

Once I disabled the drive of a T6. Unfortunately it was spinning so wildly, I could not attach the limpet.
I was in a Vulture so I had mass and we both had shields on. I maneuvered next to it, matched speed and hit against the rotation using lateral thrusters. Nothing happened. The T6 kept spinning with the same rate.
Then I went really close and tried to match rotation then stop the other's rotation. Again, my ship simply bounced off without effect.

I understand that the T6 was heavier but I did extert force on it with my own thrusters. Yet nothing happened.

So much for Newtonian physics.

As a matter of fact...
