I fancy the idea of it, but that depends on the answer to the following question:

Does ED recognise the keys as unique inputs or are the keys only bound to keyboard button inputs?

Pretty sure ED only recognizes 3 distinct types of inputs but that's just from manually editing the binds file. Keyboard, mouse and HOTAS. Gonna follow this to see if there are more ways to input commands. I do want a keypad and if that can be totally separate from the keyboard then yeah baby!!! One will become mine in a flash.

Aye, you've actually put my question into better words, so thank you.

The game client recognises any combination of keyboard, mouse, DirectInput or Xinput.

The Tartarus V2 (which I own) can be programmed to emulate keyboard (natch), mouse and joystick inputs (24 buttons and six axes) via Synapse 3. I'm not sure whether it emulates DirectInput or Xinput, but it doesn't really matter as E:D supports both.

*edit*
On reflection, it probably works as a DirectInput device as Xinput only supports 12 or so buttons.
