Ships Anyone using

I've jumped back into the Courier in preparation of the Engineers update - although I have no idea what is what and where is where but going to have a whole lot of fun finding things out!

I followed Goemon' advice & I've just parked my Courier in Lugh, a system with a bit of history and it seemed like the most central place.

Here's to hoping the release tomorrow goes smoothly, or it could be a very frustrating 3 day weekend! (UK)

I prefer the Courier over the Vulture, to be honest.

The Courier is far cheaper yet has comparable shields, fewer power issues, higher speed, higher jump range, poses a smaller target, and has higher DPS than the Vulture. No matter what anyone tells you, three medium hardpoints do in fact have higher dps than two large hardpoints. Especially against shields. Both Coriolis and ED Shipyard display this. The Vulture only has better dps against Large ships after shields are down. What's the point in that? You'll be targeting the PP anyway.

The Vulture hits MUCH harder than Courier. First off, the DPS of weapons generally go up by 50% over the previous one. So three mediums is roughly equivalent to two large, BUT ... against large ships, two large does noticeably more hull damage than three mediums due to the drop off on most non-cannon weapons against ships larger than the hardpoints used against it. But more importantly, the Vulture has a class 5 power distributor compared to the class 3 of the Courier. So 41 vs 24 weapons capacitor, and 4.3 vs 2.8 weapons recharge rate. That's a HUGE difference in hitting power beyond the first 3 seconds of firing.

Vulture has a bit better base shield max charge, and MUCH better shield recharge rate due to the class difference and the strength of it's power distributor.

Don't get me wrong ... I LOVE the Courier and prefer it over the Vulture. But I do so because I love it's look, how she handles and sounds, and her modding potential in 2.1. But she in no way out DPSes a Vulture, ever.

Yeah, the courier doesn't touch the vulture for DPS. What it does have is better survivability. Much quicker, much smaller, just as nimble if you keep the weight controlled. But as with many, many comparisons involving the vulture, it's worth noting that the vulture is considerably easier to fly when you first get in one; mastering the iCourier takes patience.

Enhanced class 3 thrusters are Farseer Inc on the live servers now. And oh dear god does this ship scream now. I stripped it's weapons to become a high speed courier ... 600 m/s feels quite good :D

I now own ONLY imperial ships (as a result of selling all my non faction hulls to finance my cutter adventures) and i can tell you the courier is THE SHIP i used to grind my empire rank, do a crap ton of PP undermining, bounty-hunting, and missions. The courier is a fast, agile, and hard hitting for its size. In a full combat spec, think of it as a vulture that gives up a bit of tank for some more handling and speed.

My weapons consist of 2 Pulses on my outer hard points and a cannon on the center point. I would advise avoiding wings when your out solo however, if you start getting plinked at you will loose your shields pretty fast, and she just doesn't have the raw HP to sponge the incoming damage, the the raw DPS output to down multiple hostiles quickly. Once you have the rank and funds the clipper is worth moving onto tho bare in mind, she will cost much more to upgrade, and you will loose s bit of flexibility with the increased size.
