Apex Interstellar Transport purpose

Im curious on why this function would even be wanted. We all start with a ship. Why would I abandon my ship and strand myself somewhere? Makes me think of having a perfectly good car in my garage, but I opt to take taxi when the reasons you would take a taxi in real life dont exist.
This got me thinking, and I only see one reason you would want to do this. Perhaps travel is instant, but even then, I dont really see a need, unless I can instantly get to colonia or a friends FC that is far from the bubble.
What are your thoughts on this feature?

Yeah, a personal ship is not required for Odyssey, you can stick to ground based activities, take a passenger ship ride to another port for missions etc. One of my tenants has been waiting for Odyssey, he has no interest in being a pilot.

Given that the explanation of Apex Interstellar Travel in the Dev Diary mentions "ports within jump range" (and Arf's stream comments regarding E: D being more of a sim), I doubt that such travel will be instant.

That players will likely be able to traverse the bubble without a ship in Odyssey would seem to be a welcome addition to the game.

Maybe someone only owns a large ship and wants to visit an outpost with no large pads. Who knows? 🤷‍♂️

It would've been pretty cool if you could travel outside the bubble if there are player-provided transportation routes this week or something

It makes more sense if Odyssey is a standalone expansion imo. So people can play the FPS stuff and use Apex for travel. If people already own the base game then they have access to personal ships. I guess some people don't like being a pilot.

I see some practical purpose here:
For example you have landed somewhere in the desert and you found a settlement while walking. There is a mission to deliver some data from port A to port B for nice amount of credits. Instead of leaving a settlement, recalling your ship, boarding, leaving a planet, jumping to other system, finding a planet, finding a port, landing, disembarking and entering the port B, you can just go to Apex booth, get a trip to port B and return to port A.

I'd hope that at the very least Apex travel is drastically slower than flying yourself.

Otherwise I can't say that I find "We're eliminating the need for all that silly "space" and "ship" stuff!" is a big selling point for an expansion to this space ship game I enjoy.

And also makes me somewhat doubtful about any improvements or additions to the space side if "Space free experience" is the focus of the expansion.

Well i think its obvious that some of the trade stands will sell alcohol. Seeing as we are ALL sensible pilots it would be dangerous to fly our ships while under the influence, so logically we would have to get a taxi to our destination until we sober up...

Yeah, as mentioned the guy renting a room from me is into Skyrim, GTA, MAss effect etc. He tried flying in ED, didn't like it. He is very excited about Odyssey though.

Tbh I don't like flying on PS4, I suck, give me a HOTAS and pedals on PC (with VR) FA-OFF, it feels like second nature. I'll only be doing ground based stuff with my alt on the PS4. Also why I wasn't too p'd off about no VR for FPS.

Yes, I suspect there are practical gameplay reasons - as well as giving "choice" - for adding this service.

What if in EDO we will be able to travel in other commanders ships ? - We'd need a way of travelling without a ship to get back to get around stranding issues.
If they improve and integrate the multiplayer aspects as they alluded to in the Dev Diary then maybe we'll see gameplay of Multi-Crew being able to use SRV with a Drop Ship dropping of Infantry.
