Apollo 15 Anniversary Expedition (A15X)

The Mercury 7 Explorers present...
The Apollo 15 Anniversary Expedition!

To celebrate fiftieth anniversary of Apollo 15 becoming the pinnacle of achievement in human exploration, we will be flying from the Hind Nebula to the breathtakingly spectacular worlds of David and Goliath in celebration of this amazing achievement.

All Commanders of all levels of experience in exploration are welcome. From those who are totally new to exploration, all the way to those hardened veterans of Elite with millions of light years under their belts...all will find a place in the community of players that makes up the expedition.

This expedition is the successor to the popular Apollo 11 Anniversary Expedition (A11X), where 670 CMDR's celebrated the Apollo 11 Moon Landings 50 years to the moment after the Eagle touching down in the Sea of Tranquility. A11X remains the most successful player-base organised event in the history of Elite Dangerous after the epic Distant Worlds, and Distant Worlds 2 expeditions. We will be leaving the Bubble on the 10th of July 2021, and touching down at our destination on the 30th of July 2021...exactly fifty years after Apollo 15 landed at Hadley Rille!

Hope Odyssey launch doesn't change that!

I was just about to point that out. While the new planet tech will be based on the same StellarForge output variables, the planet surfaces will be entirely different since that "layer" of the codebase has been replaced. So while it might still have tall mountains, we can't say that with any certainty. And even if it does, they'll probably look entirely different and may also be in different locations.

The expedition is scheduled to depart (and of course to get there) after Odyssey launches. ;)

Apollo 11 was humanities first step on to another world. It was a brave, bold, and risky move.
But one that succeeded spectacularly. And that was only the beginning...
Over the next two lunar landings, the Apollo program became greater and greater.
Reaching higher levels of scientific achievement and mission complexity each time.
But nobody at NASA quite predicted how successful the fourth landing would be.
This is the story of that mission...
The greatest achievement of the first 60 years of human spaceflight.
The high watermark of exploration in the first era of space.
With alien mountain ranges...ancient lava flows...the very origins of the solar system itself.
This dear reader is not science fiction, this and more happened on...Apollo 15!!

As featured in 'Sagittarius Eye' magazine, and talked about by many as the 'last great Horizons expedition'
This promises to be fun adventure!
Everyone is welcome to be a part of the Apollo 15 Expedition.
330 CMDRs have already joined us. Will the next one be you?

Now that the expedition is over, I would like to thank all the mission control staff for organising this huge undertaking with me, you're all superb!

In Elite we have wonderful media people in magazines, radio stations, podcasters, YouTubers, and streamers reporting out here on what they see and helping spread the word of the expedition to the community at large. You're one of the reasons the Elite community is so rich and vibrant.

Additionally I want to thank the toolmakers/app designers of EDSM, EDD and the myriad of other great platforms that help us CMDR in the black do what we do.

Finally and most importantly I want to thank you...the Commanders of the Apollo 15 50th Anniversary Expedition, that were the expedition and made it all possible. From people who have been playing for only a few weeks to the most experienced veterans of Elite, you're in all the very lifeblood of this community. You're all stars to me.

I will end with a human being that has become very familiar to you all of late.
“As I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I realize there's a fundamental truth to our nature. Man must explore. And this is exploration at its greatest.”
