Apparently pirates have gone (even more) .

A short story, really. Just now I was doing a cargo hauling wing mission in my T9. (solo) On my way back, with an empty cargo hold I get stopped by a pirate in an FDL, who gives me 10 seconds to jettison some of my juicy cargo or he'll shoot... You know, that cargo that I'm not carrying anymore... The one that is already sitting nicely in some storage on a planet in another system... After three interdictions he finally manages to kill me. Could it be that nowadays pirates became some sort of an overly zealous cleaning service that take dusting things off very seriously?

They are stupid, yes. But they also suck at interdictions. Try fighting it, next time. If you win the interdiction, they will stop bothering you.

I tried at first, but god damn is it tedious in the T9. It was faster to yield and run away. It's just that this last time he managed to get my thrusters as I fly without shields and it went pear-shaped. Also, I was curious if he's actually going to attack me even though my hold was empty. Also, they do *not* stop bothering me. THe same (supposedly) pirate was chasing me all the time. (Though I know that in reality it's not actually the same one, just generated to look the same)

If you fly without shields, then you have a double incentive to win the interdiction (and they DO stop hounding you if you do). It's harder in T9 than in any other ship, yes, but it is doable. You have to at least try, because without shields you're toast.

Didn't you get the memo, in the form of a message telling you X npcs will be going after you? they will stop once you claim/complete the mission.

Sure, makes sense that pirates would go after traders... But not when their cargo holds are empty. And after demanding that I give some of that cargo I do not have to them.

Flies without shields... calls pirates "".

I've been trading without shields for months and this is the first time it got me killed.

Always bring shields on any ship. Always. - advice from an Elite trader.

Doesn't have to be your biggest slot, but keep it reasonable. You can visit edshipyard.com if you wish to tinker with outfitting ahead of time.

That said, yeah...there's a frustrating amount of inconsistency, a lack of logic if you will, when it comes to NPC attacker encounters. I could have sworn I saw something in recent patch notes addressing it, but maybe I was mistaken?

Did you stick around long enough for the FDL to cargo scan you to find that out? (Did it even have a cargo scanner, or was it just assuming that a shieldless T-9 couldn't be doing much else but trading in bulk?)

Also, if it was mission-specific opposition, they don't care if the cargo gets stolen or just vaporised (in an FDL? Vaporised is probably the primary plan anyway...) - and if destroying you on the return trip gets you to decide it's not worth it and abandon the mission, that's a win too.
