Apply the pre-built approach to Odyssey suits

There just isn't enough diversity in Odyssey suits. You basically have one suit for combat, one suit for exploration, and one suit for Commerce.

If we only had one combat ship, one trade ship, and one exploration ship, people would be bored out of their minds!

That said, I get why they have made all the alternative suit designs cosmetic. Got to make money, after all. That said, why not apply the pre-built approach here? Every 3 months or so, you could release a new suit variation, not only with different cosmetics, but also with a different function.

For example, the suit with cowboy hat could be the Gunslinger suit. It could allow you to dual wield two side arms at once, with greater accuracy and stability on both, and perhaps a special accuracy module, which allows people to Auto Target headshots for a short time, with a cool down. This could provide a true alternative to just using an executioner, as you could Fire Two Shots almost simultaneously, breaking Shields and killing armor at the same time!

The Nomad suit, by contrast, might have some form of alternative exobiology layout, perhaps allowing it to boost sideways across the landscape, but having a shorter range on the scanning mode.

And the mining suit might have an enhanced flashlight array, lighting things up further away and in all directions, as well as having more durability than the Maverick suit.

Buying the pre-built would give you a version that is pre-engineered to grade five, and maybe includes some helpful engineering effects, while leaving some open for player choice as well. They would also include a variety of color options, so that even after the suit goes on sale to the public in 3 months, you would still have your cosmetics.

Of course, to really make some worthwhile, there would need to be some expansion to Odyssey content. New exploration content, for example, like cave systems. While you could not include these as a procedurally generated aspect of the planet itself, I don't see any reason why you couldn't just punch a hole through the planet's surface, and then procedurally generate the cave system beneath independently. It would basically just be made with the same approach they used to place buildings into the terrain.

New Odyssey styles of combat would also be nice. Additional types of Sentry drones, for example. We have long seen the advertisement for Achilles robots; you could add swarms of Achilles robots attacking you instead of people, allowing you to have large numbers of mooks that you could mow down and not have it feel overly gratuitous. Pirate factions could maybe have some sort of animal, a nice lead in to having the big game hunting that braben alluded to all those years ago!

And all of this should interact with power play, of course. Honestly, the addition of power play has made me really reevaluate Odyssey content, made it far more appealing than before, by connecting it with other things. I would happily play more of it if I were given the opportunity.

I would highlight the bottom portion of your suggestion first, as there is currently not enough on-foot content to justify new suits. I would love it if FDev put Odyssey back in the oven and baked it for a little longer. Honestly, exo-spelunking sounds f-awesome. I could go on, but we're not likely to see any of this until after the colonization update. And after the colonization update I would actually like a couple of bug-fix and balance passes first before we put in new things, as old things need addressing and colonization itself will introduce a bunch of unforeseen consequences.

You want outo targeting head shots in a pvp game... Didn't think that one through, did you.
Yes, that was the only thing I read, and it showed that there was no point in reading the rest.

I first thought you mean starter suits with preengineering from what we currently have, but I see you go beyond that. All good ideas, but would require a lot of reprogramming. I'm not sure if FDEV are willing and able to invest that development time into Odyssey.

Have you ever tried dual wielding weapons? Shooting from the hip?

Frankly your suggestion makes no sense.
Doesn't that make it fit in perfectly with the current ground combat and equipment ? That doesn't make much sense from a practical standpoint as well, but luckily it's just a game. And in a game I could see a laser pistol in one hand and a kinetic pistol in the other hand just work fine together :)
You'd still fire only one or the other, depending on whether you're firing at shield or armor. Two plasma though.....

First of all, mandatory complaint about P2W. It would be P2W no matter how many times someone asks "bUT wHaT am i WinNinG?".

This being said, it would probably be fine if they added pre-engineered G3 suits with 2 mods applied. You know, the kind that theoretically can be found in the game but is rarer than green gas giants (personally, I've never found one - but I read they exist). And maybe 2 mods that make sense, not reduced tool battery consumption on a Dominator.

Maybe even G4 with 2 mods would work. Let's leave the player the joy of buying at least one upgrade though :p .

This sounds a bit OP. Automatic headshots are a no by default. Also powers and abilities sounds too much like hero shooter, I would not want the FPS element of E: D to turn into Marvel Rivals (good game I hear). But I'm all for new viable weapon combos, so make it a single primary weapon with akimbo pistols only and it could work.

On the cosmetics from, they should of course take hints from your other discussion about suits.

We kinda have powers and abilities already, in the fact we can't swap tools between suits. I assume each new suit would have to have some special perk or 'power', or people wouldn't have much reason to buy it. It's not like ships, where you've got so many different modules and slots and stats to tweak and mess around with.

Also why keep it only with the suits? They might as well sell also G3/2mod weapons. And let's be honest, here it would be the cosmetics that would be responsible for most of the selling. These cosmetics could be then sold both as part of a pre-engineered pack, but also standalone later on.

Personally I would like to see long/short barrel version of existing weapons. I would not mind paying 16K ARX for any of the below:

Long short barrel.jpg

all credits go to Jordan Clarry, if this wasn't obvious already

I would not want these to be additional weapon models or modifications. No changes to game logic, item pools, sellers, no additional balancing required. No additional animations, postures etc. No super-weapon that trumps everything else Cobra MKV-style P2W item.

Just let the players slap over the different models to their weapons as they see fit. I would for example put the long barrel versions on my "greater range" builds and short barrel versions on my "handling" builds. But anyone could use them as they like, they see the skin most of the time anyway. Gameplay and PvP balance impact minimal (maybe when peaking?).

Sorry if this looks like a thread hijack, I got carried away.

I was referring only to the timed ability to trigger headshots while in combat. So basically a special ability that you use only in combat. The Dominator's primary dual wield is it's "power", the Gunslinger's would be in this case the akimbo.

I'm fine with the other suit ideas, providing different minigames.
