Approximate Time Played ... JUST. PLAIN. WRONG !!

Okay, so I posted my stats on another thread (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/ive-spent-over-60-days-in-elite-dangerous.518367/post-7920534) and was then asked how many hours I played.

I blindly (and truthfully) replied that "I play about an hour per day since Premium Beta and occasionally (about once per month) I get a 3-4 hour blast".

Now thinking about those numbers it just doesn't add up.

So I quickly worked out that I've supposedly played 10794 hours and it's been 1773 days since I purchased Premium Beta ... which means I would have had to be playing over 6 hours per day every day.

THAT. IS. JUST. PLAIN. WRONG.

FDEV have messed up somewhere ...

After 1773 days (and an hour per day) I should be on about 75 days in-game play time (or about 10.5 weeks).
Even if I'd been playing twice as much as I reckon it would still be only ~20 weeks not 64 !?!

So a word of warning ... don't trust the in-game play time stat.

Same story here. I estimate about 25 weeks actual play time but my stat says 60 weeks. Also playing since PB.

And if you clear your save, it doesn’t get reset to zero. And tech support says they can’t change it. There’s definitely something odd about that field.

Not for any length of time ... I'm out in the black exploring so there's nowhere "safe" (i.e. docked) where you can leave yourself logged in without risk of being vulnerable.

I do leave the game on at the main menu but I tested this and it does NOT increase the in-game time.

Interesting ... I assume this is from personal experience ?

Yep, I was thinking the same; I've been playing for a month with a few extended work-related breaks interspersed & according to the codex my average time played per day is 4.2 hrs....that has to be wrong, I've probably played that amount in one sitting a handful of times - one of those was notoriety inspired where I loaded my DBS up on fuel tanks & left the game running for 5 hrs.

I'd estimate I've averaged less than 1 hr per day taking the breaks & extended sessions into account.

I think leaving the just launcher on without being logged is counting the hours too, at least it does for steam iirc.
So leaving open the launcher while not playing can add up a lot of time.

Pretty sure I tested that ... left the game at the main menu for 30 mins didn't add any "play time".

Or do you mean that actual Launcher (not the game menu screen) ?

The launcher, where you choose Horizons or Beta etc.
But I'm not sure about this, I think it only adds time to steam shrugs

What are you getting at exactly? That this issue is not worthy of discussion?

Well, let's get back to more pertinent & interesting subject matter - like bobbleheads, Cobra mk IV ownership rules & paint degradation then, eh?! Have you read the topics showcased here before?...I'd say the general absorption quotient of this thread is about average!

I've lost count how many times I've docked and then go AFK for up to 48 hours, I almost went pop once when I just sat orbiting a planet afk for 20 hours (nearly ran out of fuel).

In fact, I'm certain my AFK hours are probably four times my active play time

I think it counts your total time logged in...even at main menu. At 26,000 hours, it has to be...I have checked my time in game, and it won't change for hours..even days...then it updates.

I have 1444 hours in the games stats and 1096 hours on steam. As I started without steam and switched to steam later, these times seem to be quite correct.
