Aquatic and Aviary Dinos Should be Updates, Not DLCs

There is a lot of talk on the forums to add aquatic and aviary dinos as DLCs but shouldn't they just be updates to the game instead? My reasoning behind this is DLCs make games a lot less fun as you keep having to funnel money into the game even though we're already paying $60. They should instead be just cosmetic changes, not game changing updates. Maybe they can instead do micro transactions adding to the appearance of the game. The reason I'm even talking about micro transactions is because as we know, the creators of the game have put tons of effort and money into this and they have to be payed continuously for them to keep improving this. Love to hear everyone's thought on this matter. [up]

Unlikely, cosmetics will be microtransactions, and new dinos / functionality will be DLC, probably chargeable after the JW:TLK one. Don't worry, you won't need to buy the DLC if you just want to play the base game. At least that's the way previous FD games have worked - not sure why you think they would develop DLC for free, that happens, but is rare.

It would be nice if it was free, yes. But they're not gonna invest time and money in it for nothing. I'm assuming that it would be quite expensive to make such a DLC. It's not being advertised as part of the base game so there's really no justification for us to demand a free update, just because we already paid for the game. We paid for what's in the game at launch.

Considering the time and resources they are going to have to put into such a dlc it would be unfair to even ask for it to be free.
And I don't think of a paid dlc as micro transactions, those are a completely different thing.

As nice as it would be for them to be free, it's no really practical considering the time and effort that'll likely go into them. Of the game I've played lately (which granted, are few) expansion packs are always charged. It's only ever skins (on occasion) that are given away a free (or in some other cases, unlocked).

Providing these pack add to the park, I'm fine with them being DLC, so long as they aren't overpriced for what they'll be.

If aviary and aquatic dinosaurs do not appear in JWE i would really not care. I'm here for the dinosaurs. Not the flying naked pidgeons. Some aquatic animals would be cool but i'll ask you...how would you even include it into the game?

I'd say its too much work and too little profit really.

I am quite out of the loop about this game unfortunately, so someone please tell me, is there any indication that aquatic animals would appear in JWE? I ask because I consider it unlikely, mainly becuase aquatic dinosaurs would require a completely different feature set. Think about building deep aquariums and huge lakes, underwater camera, underwater facilities, completely new building and attractions for visitors etc. It's almost like a completely new game. I don't think the JWE engine, in its current form at least, is prepared to handle this kind of mechanics and animals. To me it seems that the game is working fully on one "plane", which is the surface, and not below it. Microsoft's Zoo Tycoon (also developed by Frontier) never got aquatic animals either. So unless there's an official confirmation from the developers I wouldn't hold my breath for this.

Just a lot of people asking for aquatic and avian species but that doesn't mean there will be such a dlc in the future.
They have many other options to bring out in dlc's such as, 1993 Jurassic Park assets, more species, more attractions, more buildings, decorative items, more missions, etc.

How did they even obtain DNA from a sea-creature??

Excellent point.

Now, what I'm about to suggest is a pretty big stretch, but the Jurassic franchise makes bigger stretches all the time. So. Here goes...

Modern mosquitoes search for prey primarily through odor, looking for such things as the CO2 that a living creature exhales. This helps them zero in on a nice, warm blood bag (like you and me). It's very uncommon (but not unheard of) for a mosquito to be attracted to a dead animal. But, a decomposing body does emit high levels of CO2. So, let's say that prehistoric mosquitoes weren't quite as picky as their modern counterparts. The CO2 gasses released by a beached Mosasaurus might theoretically attract blood-hungry insects. Now we have a 30,000lb warm-blooded plasma buffet, and if it is recently deceased (or maybe even alive but dying), it's going to be pumping out heat and CO2 like a land animal. Bingo. Technically-not-a-dino DNA.

Honestly, if they are really going to do a Aquatic + Aviary thing, I'm more than willing to pay another $60 for that.

It is particularly interesting to see interactions between them as in the movie.

An update is free. DLCs may or may not be paid. However, people tend to request DLCs to support the developers, by giving them money.

I would like Aquatic and Avian reptiles/dinosaurs/etc to be a free update/dlc since I bet Frontier will make at
least a good profit from the normal/deluxe editions from the game, that's my opinion. But they still might
make this a paid dlc since developers do that all the time.

How would you include anything into the game? Of course it can be done. It's in the movies so I see no argument why it shouldn't be in the game that is about building a Jurassic Park/World.

Good Response. Whats the point in having a lake in the middle of your park when 90% of the time the animal will be unwatchable and underwater. Something tells me you arent really thinking about the issues in implementation.

It was just a thought haha

Regardless, if they do come out with a DLC for either of those features I'm definitely gonna buy them but this thread was just to share a thought. Now looking at everyone's responses I do realize it's gonna be almost a completely different game to be able to integrate all of those aspects. [smile] Really hope they are able to put that into the game at some point, even its a year from now lol

You're absolutely right. Clearly Frontier couldn't pull this off properly and what you're describing is the only possible outcome. NOT!

You could do the feeding show with the Mosasaurus, have it jump out of the water, maybe even beach on land and snap a dino or visitor. I think there's a couple of things you can do without them being 90% of the time underwater. And even then they could include an underwater camera to have you look at them in their natural environment. But yeah, you're probably right that I'm just not thinking about the ''issues'' in implementation and you know better. I'm glad you're not in any decision making position over there.

The feeding shows if they add them would be the only good thing, the other ideas are kinda lame imo
