AR-upgraded ship cockpits

It would be nice to be able to be able to see more in some ships than just through the window. I see that we have holographic images for advertising, in-ship UI, and even hard light images for Holo-Me options. We can jump to external cameras at any time, and they can see angles we cannot see from our cockpit. DSS scanners allow you to immediately see everything in any direction, and I can't imagine this being too far a departure from that, only that it would allow someone to see from their seated position during combat and maneuvering.

What I am thinking is at minimum a way to see overlays of at least UI items, such as targeting reticles or USS points. While I would prefer to be able to see everything, such as stars, planets and ships and whatnot, I can foresee valid arguments against it, primarily in combat.

My vision of this would be that an overlay of what's outside, almost as if the ship's body was partly clear, in a way. Like you have your very own hologram of what's outside! This could help immensely with landings and general space travel.

Again, as I realize this could change how things are, what with the UI pieces and making certain ships less restricting or whatever.
In lieu of that, perhaps new camera angles for the external camera that include: "Just in front of the canopy", and "From the top down" / "Below the ship" so that I can see the stars or planets in all their natural beauty while I'm flying out in the black.
