Ara Cluster (Westerlund 1)

Has anybody had any luck in locating the Ara Cluster in game?
Is it even placed in game? (devs)

One of my goals is to locate and map the Ara Cluster. (at least the most notable stars systems)

alpha arae is ingame, but it isn't part of the westerlund 1 cluster, which is around 10* more far away - even if westerlund 1 is called the ara cluster, too.

i checked all other names of westerlund 1 stars ingame, but couldn't find one.

i couldn't find westerlund 1 ingame, but maybe your are better in math and triangulation then me... here is a way to calculate galmap coordinates from ra dec: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=125458&p=1970762&viewfull=1#post1970762

I'd love to hear, if you would find it :) --- i was trying to work out a spreadsheet formula to transform ra dec and approx distance to gal map coordinates, but i hit a wall of being out of school since nearby 20 years (and not doing anything jobwise which includes calculation).

I have marked a lot of space on the map. I started at 5 kilo parsecs (from earth) just off of the galactic bar. (not the long bar) Where it is said to be. I moved in a line between that point and earth stopping at 3.5 kilo parsecs. Here is my biggest problem. I suck at knowledge of constellations. Does the Ara constellatiin lay above or below the galactic plane? I know the corner of the constellation lays within the galactic plane. Based on what I read about Westerlund 1 being obscured by interstellar dust i have begun my search thru the galactic plane. Westerlund contains 6 of the 12 known yellow Hypergiants within our galaxy. It contains a pulsar, the most giant stars in one cluster among many other special phenomena. I think it was a HUGE oversight not to include this in game. I have yet to run across a dense enough field of Wolf Rayet stars. This cluster has 24 of them. I should at least see a field of half that in a given a thousand Ly cube. I shall continue my search. The Westerlund cluster is the pinnacle of massive star formation. The shear number of massive stars should stick out like a sore thumb. I am filtering the galmap to show me Neutons, Wolf Rayet, Blackholes, and O stars. Since Red Giants / Red Supergiants in this game are classified as class M and my coveted yellow Hypergiants are classified as class F; searching for them directly would be nearly impossible.

Update - possible Jackpot

I have found a general bubble shaped area containing multiple Wolf-Rayet stars (around 10) along with black holes, Neutron stars, and 2 blue Hypergiants. There are many type O and B in the area as well.

after Horizons I will head to my decided location and see if I find those 6 yellow hypergiants. I doubt I will. But oh well

keep us posted. if it is westerlund 1, I'd be happy about a pm after you claimed it :)

I doubt it is the actual Westerlund1 super star cluster. It sits a good ways below the galactic plane. It does seem similar enough in properties though. After i 'claim it' i would be happy to share the location.

It does cover an area about a kylie in diameter. Perhaps as much as 1 1/2 kylies.

General question. Has anybody else tried looking for the Westerlund1 Super Star Cluster? What success has anyone had? I figured I would ask because of the lack of responses.

as said, i have tried and used all other designations simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/ gives for stars within. ED is known to be not very precisely on clusters. on the other hand there are some hypergiants ingame under other designations - for exampel Zeta¹ Scorpii, which is identified in galaxy map as Grafias (but should be Graffias...)

I already have it bookmarked for a visit. I think I will take a tour of the giant stars I can find near the bubble before I go in search of Westerlund1.
