Arboreal pack

I licked some blood after thinking a bit about the idear of an aboreal Pack.
Funnily enough, its the scenery that really grips me in this case, starting of with an expansion of the basegame thatch and log set, themed around treehouses, as well as an addition to the rope set in form of rope pieces in different angles and lenght and a identical cable subset.
For the plants i wish for more climeable trees, both dead and alive, with some typical epiphytic and orchids.
But the real fun stuff would be the new enrichment items. All of them would be completly climeable, being able to be merdged into any climbing frame.
Starting off we have a resting spot in the wood, one version shaped like a box and one like a treehole. Small climbing animals like small cats, martens, racoons, red pandas, small monkeys, etc could use it and climb inside, with them either disapearing completly or a head or tail hanging out of it.
The next would be a tire on a rope, useable by all to climb and by primates, elephants and rhinos to swing.
The last one is a rope that would fall straight down and interact with the physics engine of the game. Animals could swing it around or climb up on it.
For enrichment pieces a net set and a secound set of more organic and branch like climbingframes would be welcomed.

The pack would come with updated climbing mechanics, one of the main ones being brachiation and overall hanging, for example the use of prehensile tails.

But now for the animals, the least exciting part of the pack in my opinion. I tried to choose one per continent, while also choosing the most unique climbing styles possible. This actually changed the selection quite a bit, eliminating some of the usual requested climbers like most monkeys.
But the most wanted one made the list, the lar gibbon.
I chose this subspecies in particular, because of their abundance in captivity and their beautiful black and white gender dimorohism, but the siamang would be a great pick too.
These guys are our staranimal, featuring the brand new brachiation mechanics, which would work really well with the new branch, net and rope pieces.
They would be a joy to watch and create habitats for and propaply not just one of my favourite rl zoo animals.

Hanging down one spot we have the two toed sloth.
While being the lesser known species overall, the 2 toed sloth is far more common in captivity, with the 3 toed one not being held at all in the EAZA.
These slow bros would primarly show of their ability to hang, also primarly using the before mentioned pieces for brachiation.
While not being the most active animal, they are quite flexible, often being held more or less free in houses or thogether with other animals. They would be perfect for being combined with the capuchins, and lets be real they are just very adoreable and unique guys, both in looks, taxonomy and application.

Jumping into spot three, we have the red squirrel.
I didnt thought about the squirrel at first and wanted to put the fossa here, but while the fossa is aboreal, they havent masterd the realm of the trees even closely to the amount of the squirrel.
Squirrels are speed demons, reaching over 20km/h despite their small size and are able to jump distances of up to 5 meters.
And they do all of this while climbing mind you.
I honestly belive these would be the hardest animal for frontier to get right in this pack, as jumping and climbing at high speed while being small sound like all the ingredients for a buggy mess.
But if they pull it off, it wiuld be glorious seeing these guys jump from branch to branch and speeding up and down the climbing frames.
I chose the red squirrel in particular, as its common over all of the palearctic, argueably the most neglected biozone in the game, but they are often quite common in european fauna zoos, often in nursing stations were orphaned or injured squirrels are being nursed back to health.
+ they are cute and badass, sign me up for these little heros

Sliding in as our last habitat Animal, we have the treekangaroo (i dont care about the subspecies, you guys can fight that out if you want, i will watch in amusement).
Funfact! Tree kangaroos are amongst the most unique climbers and movers in general. On the ground they move slowly with weird hops and a slouched upper body, while on trees they hug the log and slide up or down, using their powerful hindlegs as an engine to generate momentum by shoving themself up or down.
They also are great jumpers, being able to jump up to 11 meters far, these guys will love whatever room you leave them to jump across.
But besides their very unique movement, they are marsupials, something desperatly missing from the game and thogether with the t devil and wombat one of the three that could all be a satusfying "last" marsupial, if no more would be added.

Lastly for the exhibit animal i chose the green tree python. Not much thought behind it, its just a great pick for both indonesia and oceanua while being iconic in its own right.

And thats it. As you can see, i chose 4 species that would all take some effort for frontier to make right and each one would add a new, unique way to interact with the climbing structures, the first 2 mostly with the new and the last 2 mostly with the old.
I really think this has to be scenery pack, as new climbing frames are a must and very needed, especally for this kind of pack.
But what do you think?
Are there any other very unique climbers that you think deserve a spot?
I cant wait to hear your idears how to expand the climbing system and what you would add in enrichment and probs.

I'd do an animal pack. The free update would come with a climbing overhaul specificially aimed at the orangutan (which would also add brachiation, either as a natural animation or via a new enrichment item). Then for a bit of variety, I'd add the following animals;

  • Siamang (my preferred gibbon, but I'd take any really).
  • Two-toed sloth (either species).
  • North American porcupine.
  • European pine marten (both this and the porcupine to diversify the biomes a bit).
  • Margay (a good excuse to get a small cat in, especially one that climbs as much as the margay does).
  • Mexican spider monkey (another good animal with unique climbing animations, using its tail as a fifth limb).
  • Southern tamandua/kinkajou (either or - the latter might be more popular, I'm not sure).
  • Panther chameleon as the exhibit animal (chameleons are famous climbers, after all).

Since it's an animal pack, there'd be no themed building set, but it would be a good opportunity to greatly expand upon the climbing enrichment in the game. I'd add in climbing ropes up to 16m long, pre-made nets and rope hammocks, and a new set of climbing logs that look more natural, as well as those anti-climbing umbrellas some zoos use to prevent animals from clambering down onto guest pathways when the enrichment extends across (I envision that these could be snapped to the climbing logs).

I agree that it should be an animal pack, but if it's a scenery pack I'd replace the squirrel with a spider monkey or a howler monkey.

Great idea overall!

You guys also got some great choices, especally the new world monkeys and there prehensile tail.
But i honestly disagree completly on the animal pack part.
If theres any single part of the game that needs more scenery pieces, its climbing frames.
The amount we have right now is just really unsatisfiying and they often tend to look samey as a result of the limited options. Even just something like a flexicolor set of the current ones is quite needed, or one with a different looking wood.
Also, no offense to Frontier, but the SEA pack, the only animal pack we have to compare, had one of the worst states of polish on release, with many issues allready solved and some being left out.
I really rather have quality over quantity when it comes about introducing more climbers, or we end with another bugfest like the slowmo and akward climbing cliuded leopards, the bintuwrong and their struggles with their own prehensile tail, the malayan reskin of a tapir and the lackluster dhole.
The only ones that didnt need mayor fixes were the babirusa, proboscis monkey and sunbear from what i know, but feel free to correct me.
Dont get me wrong, i loved the pack, but if we want to see new smooth climbing mechanics and animation for the dlc animals + the orangeutan, id really rather have them go the quality route

Btw i would totally approve updates like we are getting for the diving animald right now, that would smooth out the climbing animations of older animals and bring then up to polish.
I would start with the orangutan and cats as the ones needing this the most, but most of them could benefit from some fresh new animations and better 3d navigation.

German saying.
It references that after your first kill every other becomes easier and that you might even enjoy the thrill of the kill.
But its usage is mostly about having tried something and doing it again/more because you liked it so much
