Are AX missiles the only weapon that is effective against Thargoid hearts?

So there I am plugging away at a Thargoid with my Guardian plasma.
I'm sure I'm hitting the thing but it only drops the heart by 3%.
I can't seem to land a hit with the missiles. Are they the ONLY weapon up to the job?

Also what's a good setup up for a Challenger?

Gauss. The Plasma Charge while infinitely cooler, is garbage versus Thargoids compared to the overpowered instagibbing allowed via the Guardian Gauss (fixed). AX weapons are sadly garbage now.

Maybe if we could Engineer AX weapons with special effects they could be good (wtb Mycoid 2.0 pls)

no. the missiles are not very effective against the hearts. they're good for the goid armor and exerting the hearts, but you'l want either AX MC's or Guardian Gauss Cannons for the hearts.

yes....but medium is plenty. they generate a ton of heat but 4 of them will shred any goid (if you have the skill).

I'm still ticked we didn't get Large versions. Shard cannons are decent in extreme close combat (blind pew proved that) but the Plasma Charger is basically worthless. Super cool and flashy, but worthless. A Large Gauss would have helped ships with weaker hulls like Chieftain or even fun ships like Vulture pick a fight with the bigger Thargoids (not counting godly commanders who can pretty much kill Interceptors in ANY ship).

Large Gauss cannons would be overpowered similarly to if we got large railguns. The medium Gauss cannons provide plenty of firepower against the Thargoids as it is.

yeah I was kind if hoping against hope that we'd see large gauss guns but I can see why they wouldn't give us those.

then EVERYONE would be killing Medusas.

Pretty sure 2 large Gauss would be enough to melt the ship that fired them. We need some Guardian heatsink technology first.

Well against human ships Large Gauss wouldn't be as effective as standard medium rails (especially engineered). But if Medusa's become easy, just give us a seven and ultimately eight heart variant of the Interceptors before introducing us to even BIGGER thargoid ships that might need wings to bring down reliably. I mean we need to feel some sort of progression and the Large Shard Cannon and Large Plasma Charger certainly aren't it. The module/shield/hull reinforcements arent anything spiffy either.

actually, i would have hoped, that not only large variants to be released, but also small ones.
but FDEV is faithfully to not release more then hinted at any point.

as corvette owner, i wonder why, after more then a year beeing in "war" with some aliens, the federation has not asked AEGIS to develop anti-thargoid weapons for the small or huge slots.

While I have yet to finish off a cyclops solo, I can attest the gauss cannons knocking off hearts. That I've done myself.

I believe I may have seen a video with someone using the shard cannon to kill a heart, as well.

I think that was Blind Pew on one of his latest vids, he used a Krait I think with 4x shard cannons if I remember right.

So far I got no combat experience against Thargoids. But while reading through the Lore I stumbled over this:

"Thargoids are insectoid and if it is true that they come from ammonia-based planets, their physiology is dramatically different from humans. For example, ammonia boils at -33 degrees C. Thargoids may well be acclimatised to temperatures far lower than humans."

Which meanst that IF there is a Thargoid Pilot in these Ships it could be possible to kill them through overheating?
But I guess people might have tried firing heat Cannons/Beams at Thargoids already. ^^

I can very much recommend large shard cannons for both hull and heart, i got my very first interceptor kill in a Krait with 3x L shard and 2 flak.

However, to get the most damage out of them, you have to get close to the thargoid, which means you're DEFINITELY gonna be at risk of getting shocked unless you're in a wing.

Are they better than gauss cannons? Probably not, unless you have decent railgun aim & are prepared to handle the high heat.

But if your aim is poor, like me playing with a joystick, the shard cannons were a nice choice.

I do know for sure that by now, AX weapons are totally obsolete and outshined by other weapons, EXCEPT for turreted AX multis, they are still very capable against scouts especially if you have a crew member man the turrets.

Krait is actually very good at cooling heat. For bonty hunting I use a loadout with 5 long-range plasma slugs rails. With low emission G5 on powerplant it don't cooks itself. So it robly can handle 3 gauss and 2 flaks.

Still I think shotgunning xenos is cooler than shooting rails
