Spent quite a bit of time in Resource extraction sites in my vulture amassing a number of bounties for different factions. I think the Res I was fighting in was independent, so I could only ever cash in independent bounties, not federation or empire. As such, over an extended period of time doing this, I had quite a sizeable amount of fed/empire bounties to cash in.
Then the Zaonce sale hit my radar and I promptly jumped out of my vulture and back into my trusty clipper to grind the money I needed for a shiny new anaconda.
As I was heading back to my trusty old trade route in the clipper, I thought I could now cash in my fed/empire bounties, but alas, the bounties screen was bare. Oh well, they must be attached to the ship not the pilot I thought, bit like a vehicle number plate and a speeding ticket L. No drama, they’ll be there next time I go hunting in the vulture I thought.
Several days of mind numbing grinding in the clipper later, one night I pulled off my favourite trick of staying up too late, drinking too much and hitting boost instead of thrust up inside a station and exploded. Not flying drunk is a lesson I don’t seem to able to learn, maybe my first ~15 million loss in an anaconda will cure me of that particularly bad habit.
Anyways, long story long, made enough money for an anaconda with some decent modules and bought it just before the sale ended, then flew back to the vulture to amass some more bounties and cash in the fed/empire stash I’d been sitting on to afford better modules for the anaconda.
Upshot is though, when I got out of the anaconda (which also showed no bounties to claim) and back into the vulture, there were also no bounties to claim, my fed/empire stash disappeared.
So my question is this - are bounties linked to the commander or the ship? If it’s the commander, why couldn’t I cash my empire/fed bounties in the clipper. If it’s the ship, why weren’t my bounties still in the Vulture when I went back to it?
Advice gratefully received. Not overly worried about the 1-2mill of lost bounties, but if bounties are linked to commanders not ships, I will make sure I cash in all non-current-system bounties before getting behind the wheel of the anaconda in case I manage to kill myself as a relative learner driver.
