Engineers Are bulkheads/armour non-transferrable?

I have some nicely upgraded military bulkheads and some mirrored bulkheads in storage but can't transfer either of them to a new ship. Are they non-transferable to different ship types or is this a bug?

They are ship specific, so you can transfer them like for like , but not from one type of ship to another ie FDL to FDL is ok but FDL to Type 9 wont work .

They're ship-specific. If you want your armor to transfer then go with Hull Reinforcement Packages. You, also, get a minor Resistance bump with each HRP.

On the immersive side I figure that they are an intensive rebuild of a ship's hull thus cannot be reused on another ship design.

Speaking of an immersive side - I always thought that they are simply different ships. Like different car models you can choose from. So if you chose to buy a military grade composites, you are actually buying a ship built from military grade composites in exchange of your old ship (module transfer is a part of the service)
This theory is supported by the fact that you can only buy upgraded bulkheads for a ship on stations that sell that particular ship.
