Are contraceptives a chance of not mating?

I just had a female peafowl on contraceptives mate with a male also on contraceptives. Are contraceptives just a higher chance that animals will not breed or is it supposed to successfully stop them from breeding?

I think they try to breed but the contraceptive should stop them from conceiving I believe?

I do like the new notifications for breeding, but I wish that it didn't show for animals on contraceptive with no chance of conceiving anyway.

They work the same in the game as IRL pretty much. The animals will still "breed" they just are a lot less likely to conceive. Mind you, there's still a chance of conception. Again...just like real life contraceptives.
