Are FdL Hammer builds dead?

Topic.

I I was looking at my FdL which I haven't flown since December and noticed I still had quad Hammers on it. Did heat gain kill this setup or can it still be made to work? Trying to decide how or if I need to change this build. If I need to change it, recommendations are welcome.

Mostly PvP ship, prefer to stay away from heat builds.

You'd either have to fire in intervals of enough time to allow your heat to drop, or use heat sinks. Since it's for a PvP build, heat sinks.

Roger that. So heat is that big a problem is it? With shields being so important I'm not sure if I want to rely on heat sinks to fire my weapons. I'll see about it once I finish my Corvette mods today.

The heat is a little insane, firing two rounds of 4 rails on the FDL will generally push it to around 120% if you don't give it time to cool.
Honestly, with the heat meta the way it is, you'll want the heat sinks just to fight, won't have many left to cool the railguns

Here's an example of the heat you can expect

Well... depends on what you want to fight. And what mods you have pr can access. Low emissions if you have spare power... doubt it.. and clean drives will help a little with the heat. But generaly every one uses thermal shock multis and missiles so you will be doing a while lot of avoiding and not much actual PVP. mabe regular rails will be better on the heat but probably best to stick to PvE unless you have a boat laod of heat sync lauchers and can boost over 500 or so.. a cutter can mass lock you and keep up with you and melt you faster than your fsd will charge moste of the time

If you go for rails, go for cool mods. Low emissions pp and clean drive matter a LOT. Since the FLD buff the powerplant has been very generous, and the agility buff means clean drives provide plenty of performance.
