Are force shells worth it on small hardpoints?

I am looking at fitting Force Shells on my Fed Corvette.

Here is my loadout ATM:

I love the sound and look of the cannon firing on that one front hardpoint, but it is difficult to tell what effect it is having on targets. Is it even worth sacrificing....say...a cascade rail?

IMO, no, not when you can take railguns.

Force shell scales with damage and small cannon are pretty modest damage, especially if they aren't fixed and aren't overcharged/short range. Fixed small cannon on a corvette are the biggest waste of those hardpoints ever.

How about a turret for dispersal?
I was thinking of trying that myself.

While we are on the subject, could someone tell me if the force shell effect scales with class or damage? Does a class 2 force shell impact with greater force effect when combined with overcharged vs long range?

Dump Plasma and put L Turreted Long range Force shell Cannon? Keep small and make it Dispersal Field... or put Rail there.

i have tried turreted small cannons there for a while, and my experience with that was:
they have not enough ammo for how often they miss even with the long range mod.

my corvette has a small high-capacity multicannon there with corrosive debuff.
that allows me to put weapons with better secondary effects into the larger DPS hardpoints

same goes for your small beam laser - efficient + thermal vent is probably the worst combination you could put in there.
thermal vent only dissipates as much heat as the laser would generate. Since you have modded it with efficient, thats already next to nothing.

I've run small high-cap dispersal cannon and corrosive MC turrets to decent effect, though I normally prefer a pair of feedback rails...in case I come across hostile CMDRs using ships with significant SCB capacity.

I was under the impression that cascade rails don't stack? When I pair them up I've been going 1 cascade + 1 super pen

I'm pretty sure it does stack, anecdotally.
I use a pair each of hammers/rails on my Vette and using all feedback seems to make a huge difference.
I don't recall any testing off hand.

They "stack" in that they will get more hits on the shields in one trigger pull than a single rail and thwt translates to less shield regen

Everything about the weapon choice is wrong, OP. How can you sleep at night knowing you just wasted those 2 huge hardpoints for multis instead of 2 huge PA's?

They definitely stack. They were changed quite a ways back (2.2 I believe) from a flat effect to one based on damage.

It takes five small or three medium feedback rail hits to reach maximum effect (90% reduction in shield restoration) on a large SCB charge. Any hit helps, but it's not feasible to land five shots from one small rail in 3.5 seconds (a quick charge SCB) on even a large target that is making any attempt to avoid them.

Force shell is a deeply PvP-oriented modification. It is used to shake off aim of your opponents while you are charging them, and counter FA-OFF pilots. I get the feeling that your vessel is not a PvP one. Neither you will get any noticeable effect with only one cannon.

If you really want to use them in PvE, slap a cannon into each slot and meme NPCs into 'roids. It can even be super effective when you get a knack for it. Just make sure to adjust projectile speeds into one reticle via longrange, as different sizes have different speeds. And use fixed cannons, or you will never hit anything.

Small hardpoints on a Vette basically scream rails.
Also, I suggest replacing turreted beam with a gimbal one, as turreted thermal vent might melt you down if NPC have two chaff modules.
