Are Guardian Plasma Chargers fixed now?

Hi,

With the new Engineering options for Guardian modules, I was wondering if the bugged Plasma Chargers were working now? I did a build using Guardian Plasma Chargers some time ago, but they were not doing any damage to the target Orthrus. The Orthrus' shields were not going down any faster than their natural depletion rate, and they did little or no damage to the hull either. Regular EAX MCs I'd also been playing with did consitent damage, but not enough to kill the Orthrus before it fled.

Note: I'd been testing these at Spire Sites, but considered using them to attack a Titan Core too...except they didn't actually work at the Spire Site, dealing basically no damage.

I originally followed an older guide for a Guardian Plasma Charger build, and saw it making short work of an Orthrus. I'm not talking about the more recent video by Mechan, where he uses the pre-engineered version that came later, but an earlier guide by someone else from before they were available. Sure, the original GPC is not as effective, but it should do pretty decent damage none the less. At least, the video I watched show them performing well.

For me, using this weapon, it's literally been like they're doing barely any damage at all, which must be a bug. It was like the instance was bugged and damage wasn't being counted, yet I was alone, no other commanders around. On the same build, the Cytoscrambler burst lasers - that I fitted to get through the Orthrus' shield, didn't do any damage either. So perhaps it was just the instances that were bugged... several times in a row. Using AX Missiles though, worked great, it was just the Cyto / Plasma Charger built that didn't work.

I'm a little salty because I used one of my remaining Guardian Weapon Blueprints for these weapons, and they simply did not work. Considering how bugged out the process of obtaining those blueprints was - with me regularly NOT being rewarded with the BP at the end - I'm even more salty lol. I did the work to unlock ALL Guardian Weapons, with some spare, but I was rewarded far less than I earnt. That's why it stings so much to waste one.

So, has anyone used the regular Guardian Plasma Chargers lately? Did they do any damage to the target for you?

They've always been fixed....Badoom Tish!

Lol, well done :)

Were you holding down the button to charge up your attack? They need to be charged to do any damage.

Yes, allowing them to charge fully before releasing, ample power in WEP to do so a couple of times before needing to pause before the next volley. They just impact the target and appear to do nothing or near nothing. My range is good - close under 500 metres - my aim is spot on, yet at the very best only a tiny amount of damage dealt. Literally several fully-charged shots with a total of six Guardian Plasma Chargers = less damage than a quick burst from six regular EAX MC's. Regular AX Missiles are like 10x better.

I mean, I repeatedly saw several (6x) volleys of Plasma hitting the hull of an Orthrus (shield already depleted, not by me) and not even seeing a 1% reduction in hull at times. Sometimes it might lose 1% These Guardian Plasma Chargers seemed to be the weapon for quick kills on Orthrus at one point, with decent ammo levels.

I was planning to play with some Guardian Shard Cannons next - I like shot-gun type weapons - just hoping I don't run into the same problems.

You must be doing something wrong. 3 Guardian Plasma boats can one-shot a Orthus

Perhaps you can upload a video. You seem to have so many problems it is not normal

I'm really not as far as I can tell. I'm pretty familiar with regular Plasma Cannons, and the chargers aren't that much different to use, bar the actual charging bit. My shots were certainly hitting, my range was good, they just did next to no damage. If my fully-charged shots are hitting the target, I cannot possibly see what I've done wrong.

I actually gave up on the weapons at the time, despite giving them a solid try over several Spire visits, and I've since re-outfitted the ships in question. I could have another go I suppose, and I could install some sort of recording software, but that's my Sunday gone if I do that. When I switched to regular AX Missiles, everything went great. My shots were hitting - just as my charged Plasma shots were - but they were dealing consistent damage.

When I originally had this issue, I was asking if anyone had used Plasma Chargers recently and confirm they were working as expected. No one did confirm that, unless there have been replies I missed. That was my main question at the time "are these working for you currently?" sort of thing. I mean, sure, I stumbled upon an older video using regular Guardian Plasma Chargers, which have since been superseded by the pre-engineered ones. However, I didn't want (nor have the materials) to individually unlock the improved versions, and the regulars were working pretty well in the video I saw. It's like they were nerf'd when they were replaced.

It's a pain, as I initially fancied getting the Shards (I like shot-gun type weapons and getting close to an enemy) but was swayed to get the Plasma Chargers instead, based on that original video and some posts on the subject on Reddit.

May I ask, have you used them recently and successfully done the expected amount of damage?

i was testing 3l plasma with the anti anti guardian guardian field field mod and was able to solo get a good chunk of orthrus health.
you really should start recording...

Ah, that's really good. You're the first to confirm they're working. What sort of % were you taking off shields and then hull, if you can recall?

I never used to record because i) not a Youtuber and ii) my PC at the time couldn't really cope (2600k), and would compromise the game too much. I did dabble with recording for a while, just playing really, but haven't done so since rebuilding the PC a little while back.

Tell me, is OBS Studio still ok for recording? I used it back in 2020 for a bit.
