Newcomer / Intro Are NPC pirates ever true to their word?

Do NPC pirates ever stay true to their word? I've met their demands a few times by dumping the requested cargo and then hightailing out, and they always seem to go greedy. "MORE MORE MORE" or "now give me the rest". (Sometimes even if I have no cargo left -- dude, they cargo scanned me!)

Seriously, IRL pirates would more often than not stay true to their word to avoid fights; more profit if you don't spend money on ammo or repairs (or being dead). Do NPC pirates ever just go "Thank you for your cooperation" or "Thank you for paying your local tolls to Jet Dynamic Ranger Corp and we look forward to doing business with you again!" and leave?

Wasn't worth the fight over 1t of articulation motors that I got as a reward for a mission -- I was looking to cash in other stuff more valuable. Plus the odds weren't in my favor -- my ship was damaged and the pirate outclassed me (had I been in shape I could've put up a fight). I just wanted to shoo him off so I could get back to my business, but he had to start shooting even though that 1t was my entire cargo.

That sucks. If you can't trust a pirate, who can you trust? :D

Thanks for the heads-up. It looks like I'll continue my resistance.

I sometimes give them stuff. It's one way to get rid of the mission reward rubbish I don't remember getting. Most of the time they go away happy. Unfortunately, sometimes they will interdict you again straight after, having forgotten that you just gave them the goods.

Has anyone actually seen an NPC pirate scoop up the offered containers? Even in a REZ or Beacon, they scan and threaten everyone (it seems), and even attack those - other NPCs - for their cargo, but I never see them pick it up. Damn these NPC's can be dumb at times lol

If you give a pirate what he asks for, the canisters disappear, though I doubt they are actually scooped as they vanish too quickly.
But they won't pick up stuff from a RES or USS - except for rescue ships, they will "scoop" everything.

It's weird, as mining NPCs are very good at scooping.

From a Pirate

As a space-farin' captain who's interest varies from smugglin' rare trinkets, ripping cargo out of PC-NPC traders to Explorin the galaxy for wonderous treasure, I can tell ye that these NPCs are a hassle even to pirates like meself!

More often than usual I've been bothered by smaller ships in RES sites EVEN WHILE I BE PROSPECTIN' FOR GOLD ON MY OWN ACCORD!

I think its a timing issue to when you dump your cargo and whether or not you "jettison" or "Abandon" it might determine the hostile response.
They seem satisfied with whatever you drop so long as its of a certain quantity.

I have seen in earlier versions of the game ships collect cargo. Otherwise they will just fire limpets and jettison your cargo without warning. The giveaway is when you are notified or inquired about your cargo hold and your ship computer will tell you your being scanned. If you have nothing then generally they don't bother.

On one occasion a Viper III remarked my abandoned limpets as "rather exquisite wares" that will "sell for a high price" (I think he be off his head on Narcotics when makin' that claim).

Yes and no most of the time.
Yes if you drop stuff they will stop shooting at you.
No they don't count all of the 10 seconds before they start shooting.
Sometimes though they are just as murderous as a player.

If ye gettin' shot at then clearly you took your chances and didn't heed the warnings of a PC Pirate-Conda, so don't be surprised. However if PC-Pirates started shooting with no demands then shame on them! Its sad that most of us Privateers adhere to the rules of piracy and are here for thrill-seeking role playing and there be a sad small percentage that give us a bad name!

But Aye I see your point, I'll agree with you on this one, there be misery makers in this galaxy - pirates, bounty hunters and those damn combat-loggin' traders alike. Curse those blitherin' fools!
