Are NPCs members of Pilots Federation

As per the subject. Are they?

I was under the impression that only Commanders were the actual members, with PF still ranking all the registered pilots (as opposed to Commanders).

Any thougths, evidence, opinions?

I would assume (bad word I know but it is apt) that NPCs are identical to players. They all have a rating don't they? In fact the only way you can identify a player against an NPC is whether the icon is solid or empty.

yes they can be, and what's worse is they can actually be proper faction members but we can't, only allied at best, makes me angry!!!

"We've structured the rules - we have this thing called the Pilot's Federation, where all player characters are members. That's how, from a game point of view, how we distinguish between what are AI pilots and human pilots."

that quote just confuses me, if you fly around Shinrarta and surrounding systems you'll see loads of NPCs that are affiliated to The Pilots Federation as faction members!

maybe it's out of date or that's how the under the bonnet rules work? but in game, the reality is, it doesn't allow you to be anything other than allied to the PF, whereas NPCs can clearly be seen to be fully paid up members!

please correct me if i'm wrong, but that's what i see anyway.

I think that may be just an oversight in game design vs lore - the standard NPC mechanics were applied to all the systems, including Founders World.

But it's a bit strange then that the PF would be treated as a generic system faction, after all your reputation with it is directly affected by your interaction with it in missions and member NPCs, and even though you're a "member" you still can't be actually affiliated to it.

So in effect, we are all invisible "members" but we can't actually become real members, and NPCs can be "real" members but are actually just generic members of a generic faction!

maybe when PP2 comes along, the PF will be come a faction that you can pledge to! mind you that opens up a whole other can of worms as to what happens with other CMDRs pledged to other factions, taking in to account that they are all supposedly members of the PF as well!

SORT IT OUT FDEV! : )

I don't think so, isn't that why only players have cmdr before their name?

yes of course we have that moniker, but my point is that in the game we aren't treated as real members, we can't actually become active affiliated members of the PF. we can become allied, or even enemies i suppose, but not pledged/aligned like in PP, whereas some NPCs are clearly shown to be!

Hopefully this will change in the future to fit with the in game lore and role of PC's in PF :D
