Are on foot missions meant to reset if you log off ?

@Arthur Tolmie : copied you in incase this was something that shouldn't be happening and should be reported.

Yesterday I took a mission to prepare a settlement - reatore power and extinguish fires: the mission provider gave me a power regulator.

I got the power on and had 3 small fires left to deal with (3 separate HAB buildings), when my router threw a funny.
When i logged back in, the entire mission was reset - I had to restart the power again (this time with one of my own regulators), and put out the fires again. it is also the case that the data ports which previously did have data to download were now empty when i logged back on.

So due to no fault of my own (in this case) I lost a rare in game item (the power regulaor), and missed out on data.

I know reinstancing is a pain, and keeping track of part progress might be complex, but it seems unfair if on foot missions reset that significantly when in space missions don't.

I confirm this. If you quit the game while you're in a settlement (mission or not) and then relog this happens :

  • you spawn back at the entrance of the settlement
  • everything that was still in your backpack stills there (loot and also items you brought before, including Power Regulator)
  • the Settlement looks like it did reset and nothing happened but ...
  • ... all Containers / Cabinets / Data-ports are now empty
  • if any Power Regulator you brought was still inserted in the Power Generator then it's lost !!!

But yes, if you then leave the settlement (no relog), it will reset the loots.

That's the main reason why I don't even try to restore power in Settlements anymore. I was ending up losing half of my Power Regulators because of the numerous game crash 🤬

It's intentional, intended to prevent log off/log on fast looting I presume. But it also triggers on a game crash, and there are lots of those.

Just another broken feature that needs fixed.

The best trick to avoid losing your items / loots is to simply unload them in your SRV or ship. At the second it enters your "Storage", you own them forever.

I guess I'm lucky I don't look at the galmap and don't try and run the graphics very high due to the generally not great FPS. if it was falling over often then it would be even worse :(

Lose items? Have they changes that?

I got shot to jello a while back while being wanted and had a ship that contained cargo... I couldn't be arxed to get into an hour game loop to get meself back to the same surface, so I reload into horizons back into odyssey (to the stake with me) and all my stuff was still there.

Oh yeah, I contradicted my first message 😵. Like you said, they fixed this, you don't lose your backpack when relog anymore. I guess I just got traumatized 🙃

Weird that ppl are getting so many crashes at bases - think I've had maybe 1-2 in ... 5 months?
Ditto.... quite a few fps grind-to-a-halt's but not one single crash in settlements, and I've done oodles of 'Restore' missions since Oditty launch. In fact the ONLY crashes I've had are sometimes on leaving the game or on accessing the system map* both of which are acknowledged and currently being fixed (Iirc)

*System Map crash always results in a FDev Crash Report 'Form'. Exit from game crash is just black screen and Task Manager close-down.

N.B. I always do a 'Validate Game Files' after every (rare) crash. ALL settings on Ultra and no dodgy AMD FSR, Supersampling X0.85, FXAA, GPU 'Terrain Work'=50%. My Rig as per Sig below:

Well to be honest, when I relogged, first thing going through my head was "fek, my back pack :( ", and logged off.
The next day I raided the place again, only to find out I could take one ionized gas because my pack was full.
I already deemed the stuff lost and was like "wut?"

If I set my graphics quality to anything higher than "Medium", settlements crash once per hour for me.
Are you overclocking your GPU at all?

I've found that I cannot overclock my GPU as high in Odyssey as I can in Horizons. If I leave my overclock settings as I use them in Horizons, I get much more frequent crashes in Odyssey.

Though I havent checked this in several months now, so it may be less of an issue these days.

To me it still is black-magic how they manage to save your backpack like that. Server-side or on the client, i dunno ... 🤔

Nah, I got a non-overclocked 1080ti. Actually the game runs perfectly even on "High Quality" (~50 FPS) most the time, but it feels like it does trigger more random crashes (once per hour). It's definitively more in the bug spectrum than performance I would say.
