Are other CMDRs able to visit the Proteus shipwreck site in Trapezium Sector in EDO?

Hello all,

I cannot visit the Proteus shipwreck site on Trapezium Sector YU-X c1-2 1 a in Odyssey, because the game crashes to desktop without any error message when I get close to the crashed Anaconda. The crash to desktop happens in normal flight low over ground or after landing when using headlook in the cockpit to look at the crashed ship. In Horizons 3.8 I was able to go there, drive around, collect materials and download comms uplink logs without any problems.

Have other commanders been able to go there in EDO without issues? Or is this issue only in my PC?

Edit: I tried again in EDO after climbing out from the Proteus shipwreck site, to an altitude of about 42 km, in Horizons 3.8. The game loaded fine in Odyssey, but I was able to continue flying for only a few seconds before the game crashed to desktop again, without any error message as always. This issue may be related to the issue where EDO invariably crashes to desktop when I try to drop from supercruise into any POI or station in a planetary ring. That issue started with Update 12.

Edit 2: I tried again one more time in Odyssey after I had flown in Horizons 3.8 to the area where there are several crashed Thargoid ships. I stopped my ship over that area at altitude 45 km and exited the game. Then I loaded the game in EDO. It loaded fine, but I did not get to fly anywhere before the game crashed to desktop. I had only started to tilted nose downwards, and when my ship's nose was pointing to about 40 - 50 degrees downwards, the game crashed without any error message. Looks like this celestial body is not working in Odyssey, at least not on my PC. But is the fault in the game or in my PC? Is it happening because of the use of native doubles in GPU? I have an AMD system which is affected by the Radeon driver issue discussed in other threads.

Works for me, so nothing wrong with the game.

Im on Radeon myself and not happening to me, Verify your game files would by my first action, could be a texture loading crashing the game that is only used at this location

Ok, thanks for your time and effort for checking this rather remote location. My PC has also gotten another problem recently: All screen savers have gradually stopped working after the Windows 11 22H2 update and the several smaller updates after that. After the big update to version 22H2 screen saver activated occasionally, but the smaller updates after that stopped it from activating completely. I have performed the system file check and repair commands listed on this Microsoft support article, in step 3. A few corrupted files were found and repaired.

The verification of 5051 files failed and they were downloaded again. Ouch. This doesn't feel good.

I tested the game again after verification of local files, but it still crashed to desktop at that site. It feels odd that I was able to land in front of the crash/experiment site, a couple hundred meters away from it with my ship's headlight illuminating the site, but when I used headlook to look left, the game crashed to desktop without any error message. I have been able to use headlook without issues everywhere else where I have been in the game.

I did the verification of local game files again, and this time the verification of 2954 files failed and they were downloaded again. I will run the verification again until all files are verified correctly.

One verification should be all that is needed. I suggest that you check your disk for errors in case you have any issues there.

I booted to BIOS and performed a "Short controller test" and an "Extended controller test" for the SSD on which the game is installed, and both tests failed. The mobo is an X570 Aorus Master and the SSD is a Kingston KC2000 NVMe 1 TB. The unit of that SSD is the second already, because the first I got failed after about a month's use. It was in the topmost M.2 connector. I installed the second unit to the lowermost M.2 connector to keep it cooler. So, should I now replace the SSD? It gives a quite untrustworthy impression now. It also has a history of broken system files in Windows 10, that were impossible to fix, but upgrading to Windows 11 seemed to fix everything.

I have sent an RMA application of the SSD. It has a five year warranty, with almost two years left. I'm now looking for a new SSD system disk.

Issue solved. I replaced the system SSD and installed Windows 10 and applications again. Now the game no longer crashes to desktop anywhere I go. I visited the Proteus shipwreck, then went mining some tritium without any issues. 👌🏻 I had not been able to approach any asteroids in EDO since update 12. I believe I can also visit asteroid stations in EDO again, but I have not tested that yet. Thanks for your help, commanders. 👍🏻
