Are people okay with "space fog"?

in a 1980's CGA monitor sort of way....

Ah, thank you, I knew it was reminding me of something...! Actually, it also reminds me of this:

Yeah, I am surprised at how many people think Night Vision is the greatest thing ever to come to the game. It must be nostalgia for the original 1984 Elite.

Personally, I can't stand it. There, I've said it now.... :) At least I can choose to just avoid using it, or setting down on the jarringly pitch-black sides of planets.

I'm still trying to get used to the fog. Sometimes it looks pretty cool and other times maybe not so much. For screenshots I like nice clear ship pictures. Looks like Photoshop will be needed to clean up a foggy station pad. Being a game maybe the Devs could add Fog On/Off in the graphics options. Depending upon how they implemented fog into the game maybe not.

TBH, I like the idea of NV in ED for dark planets.

I'm not so keen on the idea of NV being some sort of "catch-all" solution to poor visibility though.

I recall playing some game a few years ago (possibly one of the Splinter Cell games) and I realised I'd played almost the entire game in NV mode, which meant the whole game had been in "black & white" and any effort the dev's put into lighting, shading and texturing everything in the game had been completely wasted.

The ED galaxy is a beautiful place and FDev need to be careful they don't obscure that by making things foggy or have players miss it as a result of using NV a lot of the time.

All this theorycrafting around an instagram filter :p
Other space fog implementations, I will let you be the judge:
