Are people okay with the new-look planets?

Yes, clickbait thread title. :p

What I was wondering, though, was if people (especially those using VR) have had any problems with the new planet surfaces causing nausea?

Generally, it's okay but I landed on one planet, in particular, to hunt for mat's and I found the red hue (a combination of the star type and the planet surface) to be really overwhelming and it made me feel a bit sick after half an hour or so.

It's great that the planets look so diverse but it seems like some of the effects can be a bit "fierce".

*EDIT*

Just to draw attention to the issue, in this pic' the ship lights are on, as are the SRV lights.
The red hue from the surface, and the red light from the star, totally swamped everything.
There was absolutely no white light visible at all.

That looks awesome to be honest. :)

Not landed on a planet yet though, but I'll no doubt need materials for my Eagle Project, so I'll be on one soon™.

(Soon being Monday... Lol)

When textures get a bit more intense, VR tends to suffer. VR does lighting and shadows brilliantly, but more complicated textures get more "greasy"... giving you less landscape to hold your focus.

A tip is to find a focus point to use, it might alleviate your problem.

I've loved them so far, but haven't yet driven the SRV on one. Having said that, I'm about to as I've run out of nickel and need to engineer my Chieftain. :) I've never suffered from nausea, so I'm not expecting any problems.

Funny you say that, but I was in the SVR yesterday collecting mats - in VR - and after 5 mins I had to stop. I've never felt that sick in VR before. I'll revert to 2D for SVR mats gathering for now.

i went to a few planets, and im not dissapointed, they looked absolutly stunning. but im not playing in VR.

I think the issue is the way our eyes respond to different types of light.

The problem I had was that the overwhelming "redness" of everything reduced my perception of the details of the landscape.
I was having to really concentrate to see ridges and dips because the lack of shadow meant everything was just massively RED.

Don't really mean to complain about it because I really like the way the new planets look.
I'm really just making the observation that some of the effects can be pretty intense.

I had no issues in the beta on the surface, but I can't really comment on the game as I've been out of town for the last week.

I do know that if I've not been out in the SRV for quite awhile I'll get a little queasy at first, but it goes away soon.

Am I okay with the new planets?

The short answer is YES. A very resounding FRACK YES. Between the new planets and the increased mat storage I am finding simply driving around planets blasting rocks to scavenge materials much more fun than it’s ever been. I’ve spent so much time just gawking and driving around planets since 3.0 that I’ve not gotten much else done in game yet. I’ve not bought a Chieftain yet, I’ve not hunted the new Thargoid Scouts, I’ve not traded anything, nor flown any wing missions, I’ve not uprated my T7 nor my T9 yet. The planets are so good they distract me from everything else in the game.

I’m okay with that though.

I'm in love with planets again. Particularly the fact that there is now a bit of diversity, both from orbit as well as the surface. +100 to fdev for this part of 3.0 alone.

I use an Avegant Glyph in Side-by-Side 3D and have no complaints. Of course, I can also read a book in a car, on train or on a ship - motion sickness is a stranger to me.
About the only thing that ever turns my stomach is the occasional road-kill skunk that turns up in my yard. Yuk.

yeah! I dropped into a miles wide crater and it was all spooky foggy with a couple craggy mountains dusk (or early morning, who can tell???)

very creepy!

I would be ok with what I see in that image (not Mengy's, the OP's) - if that's a rare occasion and not the new standard now. If the latter, I would appreciate the beige standard anytime. I hate too much red in the same way some others hate too much beige. :D

That’s the great thing about the new planets: there isn’t a new standard. What we have now is variety. You will see some having similar colors due to what their makeup is, but planets look unique now like they never have before in the game.

Very happy with the new planets. But could Fdev please turn all of Mengys ships beige just for a laugh.

Hah, I admit I’d find that funny! As long as I could change it to anything other than beige of course!!!

I have done quite a bit of surface prospecting since 3.0 dropped, as I suffer from nausea at all times (previous injury) I will admit that planets/moons very close to their stars can be really intense, it is amazing though ! Driving up out of a crater in full shadow towards a massive looming star on a dark world is something else. (Fdev somewhat saved me with the 'no camera shake' option and bye to lens flares !)
