Are people really asking what the game goal is????

Firstly hello to all, I have finally signed up of the beta as i could not wait any longer to get into the game.

Maybe this is because I am having a fresh look at the discussions going on at the moment, I could not help but laugh at the long threads on "whats the game really about, what is the point of the game".

Am I missing something or is the clue in the title - ELITE get to Elite status!!! That was the goal for me in the original (very distant memories but I think I managed to get to Deadly). Obviously the openess of the game was how you achieved it but in broad terms it was earning money to buy the best kit, and use that better kit to kick ass (increasing your pilot skill process in the process).

Not sure what all the headscratching going on is all about.

In fairness, there are lots of players joining these forums who have heard/picked up on the hype and never played Elite before, so don't actually know what the game is all about. But yes, you got it in a nutshell!

If that were the only goal I might as well delete the game. I can't do combat very well, a 1 on 1 with a human and I'll pretty much be a wipe. I MIGHT get mostly harmless over time but I haven't a hope of becoming Elite. Do not assume the only goal is a fighter pilot rank.

Elite isn's just a combat rating any more — you can get to it by just trading (or, presumably, exploring). And trust me, you're much better at combat than I am.

Hehe, I can tell you haven't been reading my past posts. I only have my off-hand (my right is not functional from Stroke) and no joystick. Age has it's price.

Don't let it defeat you though Thing like Voiceattack will probably be a big help.

As Alexios said though - rating isn't all about combat any more. Cash balance as a trader, number of systems explored, etc etc ad nauseum. I'm sure there'll be a niche for you!

True, the point is getting to Elite, but what keeps you going is the pleasure of the ride. At least that worked for me.
To the people that make questions like "where is the game" i must point to the term "simulation". This has to me larger implications than the mere fact that you can actually fly your ship (unlike that other game).
The SIMULATION i hope to master is the populated Galaxy simulation.
At this point people complain about the randomness of a lot of stuff (market, missions, equipment, etc). I'm hoping to eventually catch the patterns that permeate from that aparent chaos. If FD succeeds as i expect in making a living breathing galaxy, it will be one hell of a ride.
