Are Planetary Scan Jobs broken?

Just took on three to get MEF. First one went fine (public data point) but the other two were private. I scanned the beacon, got the bounty, got a grab-bag of data, but no message saying the mission is completed. Both are still showing as outstanding.

What's up?

I did one last week and it worked. I scanned from my ship, got the stuff, and flew off to pay the trespass bounty. That was it.

I did a good two dozen planetary scan missions in the past month and they all went through fine for me. It usually takes a while for the mission complete message to appear after the scan but it always came eventually.

I've been doing a bunch lately. Almost all of them (all the valuable ones) are private and incur a bounty. Usually there are a couple skimmers with wanted status so you can shoot those down and get paid way more than the bounty will cost you at the IF. I've not encountered any not being marked complete. Are you sure they didn't want more things scanned? Sometimes it's more than one scan point, if it's a "strategic data acquisition" instead.

Oh, I have seen where I had two scan missions in the same system, they both seemed to be at the same location, too. The first scan only completed one of them and then I still had a mission marker on the same world. I went and did some turn-ins, came back later and completed the other one. It might need you to jump out and in to get it to generate a new location for you, maybe not.

That's an interesting possibility. There only seemed to be one scan point but, in fairness, I wasn't looking for any others.

Right so, I noticed at the time that as I flew away from the world that it was still blue (as in, mission location) but there wasn't another search zone. I think maybe the system would generate a second one if I relogged? I didn't check that. I think probably if you stack planetary scans in the same system they might be on the same world. I think next time I'll re-log and see if I can get them both in a single visit to the system.

If you get a bunch of scan job on the same planet or on the same installation even you can complete them by doing one of the scans then entering SC realigning yourself and dropping back in and scanning again. I did 3 of them this morning.

No need to jump out - I just relog once I get out of firing range and go back & scan again.

You can log out and back in again for the same effect, but ONLY do this if AFTER scanning the datapoint, it still shows as a mission zone. Edit :ninjad :)

Also, greayarea, are you doing these in the srv or from the ship? I do them from the ship, I doubt it makes any difference to bugs and such but it's a lot easier

Hmmm. Odd. Wonder if it's because I had three on the go at the same time?

Were all three in the same system? That used to be bugged (though in a good way), but they fixed it ages ago. Not that I've done planetary scan missions for a long time, so maybe they broke it again. :)

Edit: And it looks like I should have read further in the thread before replying, lol. Yes, they didn't completely fix it (they just stopped the single scan completing all missions in the same system, so you might have to relog, as pointed out).
