Are pulsars currently in the game?

There are pulsars in there, such as Crab nebula which shows as a neutron star iirc.

Currently no special effects, unclear if/when they will be added.

It is a shame - if would be nice to have a systems where you would need to get the hell out of there as soon as possible because of the radiation

Yeah, exploration could really do with more risk from natural phenomena. Flying through a radiation jet from the pole of a pulsar or feeding black hole should be an eye opening (pants-changing) experience to say the least.

Well, pulsars *are* neutron stars, just the really fast spinning sort of them.

True. And aren't magnetars the same, just with an enormous magnetic field? Which, should really throw our ships for quite a loop because after all, there is no anti-gravity and Elite lore says magnetic boots are a thing.

Indeed... Maybe they'll someday implement some of the more wacky sort of effects those unusual objects cause.

Yes. And no

Those stars are thousands of light years below the plane (in fact outside of the galmap) and are pulsars (psr) in real life. But you just cant reach them :p

No pulsars, no accretion disks, no evaporating hot jupiters, no comets.

The pillars of creation were destroyed by a supernova, but there's no planetary nebula left behind from the event (a supernova that big would leave a mark).

I jumped into a system that had a black hole within kissing distance of a huge star. The star was fine. No effect from the monster that should be devouring it, bringing it to an early supernova and possible new binary black hole.

Basically, the galaxy doesn't interact with itself at all. It's what makes exploration so boring for me. There's no sim in the sim.

Pulsars are just neutron stars. All neutron stars are pulsars, they're just not all labeled as such because the poles don't face us, so we can't see the "pulse". They all have it though.

No pulsars and it would be hard to visualize a pulsar system unless there can be a cool game mechanic that involves taking shield damage the longer you are in the system. You wouldn't see visible beams of radiation flowing out of a pulsar though.

Agree with all points. Exploration still feels a little beta-quality to me. Bring on the natural hazards I say!

Think about all it could do mission-wise! A disabled ship stranded at the event horizon of a black hole, and in order to rescue the occupants you have to have a specialized FSD. Or near a pulsar, a specialized shield to aid you in a military recon mission. The possibilities just by adding natural phenomena are immense. And hey, that's what they could name the update! 2.5 - Natural Phenomena :D And it ties right into Engineers :D :D

Or maybe a ship stranded near the event horizon where the crew is overrun by extradimensional hell souls that force them to tear each other and themselves to pieces?

Some do pulse visible light, as well. Your HUD should see it, regardless.

Not a pulsar, but if you catch it on a big flare from a distance it looks a bit like a slow spinning one:
