Engineers Are rapid fire mods on pulses any good now?

I like them and they work good. That's all I can tell you. :)
You have to try them out to see if they work on your FdL. Distributor and jitter are a factor for some people.

I prefer efficient huge beams over rapid fire pulse.

Sure, the DPE may be slightly less on the huge beams, but you don't have any jitter issues at all, plus heat is a non-issue. And you gotta love being able to reach 0% heat with thermal vent beam lasers.

I run 4 efficient pulses with scramble spectrum on my FDL. +8% dmg is a common secondary role at grade 5, with a max roll you can end up with around +18% dmg efficient pulses that fire indefinitely on a single pip, have higher armor pen than beams and cause constant malfuctions. 4 scramble spectrum effects going off constantly is godly, it's not uncommon to have more than 4 simultaneous module failures on your target at any given moment.

I'm using blasters with dual scramble on my Vulture...I cannot agree with you more on malfunctions.
One of my favorite tactics with the big ships is to draw them into the field where they cannot maneuver.
It's a picture of beauty when a conda boosts past you in an asteroid field just as it loses maneuvering thrusters and bounces off a rock.
I didn't care for the "actual" performance of the efficient weapons. But I never tried beams.....back to the engineers......

Yeah just run with efficient.

The other option is long range for pulse/burst. Wouldn't really bother with anything other than efficient on beams, though.

efficient bursts are the bests, seconded by efficient beams.

But seriously, why bother with the FdL ? it's been nerfed hard two times already, just buy yourself a big ship like everyone should.

I think it depends on your fighting style.. They might be worth it with gimballs but I like to use fixed and they seriously damage the range you can hit people. I much prefer long range. There's something nice about taking people out from 5/6km.. The damage falloff change also means that even at 1/2km you're doing much more damage so for me long range is effectively a DPS increase.

This. The extended falloff is not counted in the DPS calculations, but unless your fighting style is "Up their rear end", it is a massive improvement.

Rapid fire was the mod par excellence, imo, in 2.2, with obsessive PvP-outfitters like myself and BreakfastMelon running all rapid fire loadouts as we were willing to put up with the jitter and ammo shortages in return for a DPS as good as Overcharged and a DPE almost as good as efficient.

Sadly in 2.2.03 it was nerfed hard. Partly by reason of Draw changes, you will find that rapid fire now runs hotter than hell.

All of my rapid fire mods are now gathering dust somewhere in the cubic miles of Jameson Memorial garbage storage that Frontier have reserved for our blood, sweat and tears.

I agree with the other PvP posters that it's efficient or long range now.

Efficient mod is now by far the best option, if you couple them with a G5 Charge Enhanced power distributor. I use this on both my FDL and Vulture, no heat problems and three pips to weps you can fire all day long. When you consider a good G5 roll can give you upwards of +9% DPS and also overall damage, if you can stay locked on target you are dealing major pain.

Regarding the FDL, I've flown one for a year, but I went back to the Vulture and engineered it to be high thermal resist. Ditched all of my prismatic shields, and switched to Bi-Weave engineered to G5 thermal resist, one resistance augmented booster and one thermal resist booster. This gives me an almost even 50/50/50 resist setup. Throw a grade 5A SCB into the mil slot buff the Vulture got and believe me in PVe it will eat anything that dares cross it's path. Even if your shields get low one SCB will give you full shields in seconds. Couple all that with G5 dirty drives, and given that the Vulture can turn so well even with the throttle above or below the blue zone, well it's just so much more fun to fly than the FDL.

I thought I read in another post that the secondary's do not stack...in other words have 4 pulses with the same secondary is no better than having 4 pulses with one of them having a secondary. Is that not true?

It's true about scramble spectrum, afaik.

Stacking scramble gives more rolls towards getting the initial malfunction but as that chance is really high anyway and is immediately followed by an impenetrable cooldown ... I never carry more than one scramble spectrum weapon.

I will recant if someone can link me vid of a ship suffering more than one malfunction at once but all testing I am aware of, including my own, suggests not.
