Are Red Foxes kept in Open-top Habitats?

So I’m making a red fox habitat and I want it to be open-topped but all of the ones on google images have mesh tops. Is there a reason for this? Can I just put an overhang on the fence to keep them from jumping out? I’d like to hear from your experiences. I have only seen one open topped fox habitat irl and it had the fence overhangs, they were probably about 3 1/2 meters tall though and I would prefer something around 2 meters if possible.

Shepreths's fox rescue habitat just had a sunken pit with high walls, open top. That was a while ago though, I haven't been for a couple of years. I should go back! I'm gonna go back.

Open top should be fine aslong as you make the fence high enough so they cant jump over and put hot wire up so they cant climb it either.

My admittedly very quick research said that red foces can jump like a meter high, so 2 meter fence should be good provided it has anti climb measures

My local wildpark got them open topped with ~2 meter high fences and a tunnel below the visitor path to connect the differnt parts of the habitat. Never heard of them facing any issues

I mean, I remember most arctic foxes having closed top habitats. I’m assuming reds could as well, though at Squam Lake Natural Science Center the foxes are in an open top.
