Are RES still a thing (worth playing with?)

Returning to the game after a long hiatus.
Started hopping around the starter area randomly and noticed I didn't see any resource extraction sites anywhere. I filtered for JUST Extraction systems, hopped to 8 more systems, still none.

Have these been removed/tweaked?

RES can be anywhere there are planets with rings whether the economy is extraction or not. They're still around; can't speak for the starting zone since I've never been there.

Still there... Good way to make credits and, if you're into powerplay, it's a great way to make merits. Still fun.
