Are security cameras useful?

I have blanket coverage of security cams, costs a fortune, and still theiving is rampant, I followed one of the pickpockets to see how they were managing it with cams everywhere and watched as he stole while directly under one. Then a few mins later a guard walks passed him, tips his hat and kept on going and left him to it. I got sick of manually ejecting them all so went to the effort of covering everywhere in cams, using the terrain circle to set them at no further than 15m radius to make sure no holes in the coverage and it basically seems like a waste of time and money to me.

Do you mean the tasks in the security guy tab, chase pickpockets, evict vandals, as they are both ticked.

I believe the cameras are supposed to tell security what the pickpockets and vandals look like. So when security next go near/walk past them, they will either stop them or chase them, resulting them to being kicked out of the park. I just put a couple cameras around shops and other busy places in the park. Seems to do the job for me! [happy]

I thought that the cameras are there as a deterrent rather than to aid with detection? There is an option in the scenario edit that allows you to tick "cameras act as a deterrent"...
I personally don't bother with cameras, much like other features in the game (track rides, water rides and now vending machines, crane grabbers and gumball machines) they are a dead feature that serve no purpose other than draining money or park experience.. I just train my security guards to level 5 and that seems to keep them under control...

Usually the victim gives a description of the thief without the cameras... the cameras are just a deterrent making it so pick pockets are more likely to steal at a different location.

I wish the cameras would tell security where the thief is if spotted so security could run over there, but sadly they do not do this...
