Are small ships (Viper, Eagle, Sidewinder) any use against Thargoids?

The subject pretty much says it all. Are small ships (Viper, Eagle, Sidewinder) any use against Thargoids?

I ask because I enjoy combat in small ships more than I enjoy it in large, and I know from experience I can kill most NPC ships in my Viper Mk IV... but the time it takes is sometimes extreme.

So my question is this, is it worth going Thargoid hunting in a small ship or is it only worth it in larger ships with the large and huge hardpoints?

Thanks!

In smaller ships you will need larger ships to draw the focus of the Thargoid, or have a very coordinated team.

As smaller ships you will be tasked with support duty such as remote flak carrier to occupy the Thargon or auxiliary firepower for missiles or multicannon.

You can use the Viper IV. Good Hull tank and two AX medium weapons. So you will be of some use in a group. But actually really good or Solo? No. You can also use it for tissue collecting. But it should be engineered.

From what I've seen only small ships with size 2 slots will be useful in groups and they'd only be useful for a specific role. I.E. your Viper would be sporting AX missiles to help get the hearts strained while others use multi-cannons to take out the hearts.

For solo play, the lowest ship you'll probably want to be able to solo a Thargoid is a Federal Assault Ship or Federal Dropship I think and even then it'll be tough.

The best way to solo a Thargoid from what I've seen is to have a fighter bay to launch fighters to distract the Thargons and have 2 AX multi-cannons and 2 AX missiles. That pretty much leaves the Federal Gunship as cheapest ship to handle a Thargoid more consistently.

I can solo barely in an asp explorer however its engineered to nearly maximum, i cant see a mid range or lower asp solo it as i barely solo it with 7% hull remaining if even

My ship is a Sidewinder and I use it to antagonise the Thargoids by collecting their bits and bobs at Non-human Signal Sources. I also rescue escape pods there too.

Two corrosion-resistant cargo racks and G5-engineered 675 m/s boost speed allows me to nick stuff right before their insectoid eyes and then zip right out of there before they can blink (do Thargoids have eyelids?).

But as for aggressively attacking Thargoids in my Sidewinder? Forget it.

That's one hell of a tough job to do so huge congrats! o7

I have no idea how you can place shots accurately enough for ammo to last through all 4 hearts with only 2x ax weapons. Unless you lure one near the station in which case one could be soloed with a viper too for example (hint for the OP too ;)).

Yes outside healing beams and research limpets or collectors of the debris, ships with only size one hard points have no combat capability

Video or it didn't happen :p

Seriously though...how do you manage with only 1 AX missile and 1 multicannon? It would take too long to exert a heart with one missile and it takes too long to kill a heart with one multicannon. You'd need god like accuracy on both to not run out of ammo before half way.

An Asp can't fit a fighter bay, and you don't have the hardpoints for a flak launcher, so the Thargons would eat you up.

Anyone else soloing Thargoids with only 2 size 2 hardpoints or is it just Davanix here?
