are stations automatically discovered?

Im currently hanging around at the border between empire and federation space. As it happens some (but not all?) empire systems do allow and sell weapons and narcotics. When opening the trade view in the galaxy map im indicated that one sector exports personal weapons to three neighboring sectors... however when going there these goods are not bought in the commodities market and there is no black market at the only station in the system. That leads me to the question if any spacestations in partially undiscovered sectors automatically show up on the system map? I have so far never been able to discover additional stations in a system (quite contrary to add. Astronomical objects)..
otherwise..if the one outpost or station in a particular system is really the only one.. why would the export data/galaxy map lie to me?

Yes all station show up automatically on the maps and navigation tabs, least that's what I've found, don't trust the information in the information box. Use the map to see where the exports and imports are going & only trust where the commodities info say they export to.

Thats where i get the info from. In the commodity info box (it states the exact systems where the commodity is being exported to)...

I don't know if anything's changed for gamma, but in previous releases I've definitely been able to 'discover' previously hidden stations.

I wish they didn't show up by default. Of course that would mean we'd need some appropriate tools to find them.
Maybe someday. :)

Its funny that i have to scan down huge planets but know every Station in a system immediatelly... Just another point in the long list oft things that doesnt make sense in this game Ort make the world more beleaveable.

Confirming this in gamma

I found one station that was not on the system map

Don't recall the system but was around Apoyota

I dare say stations transmit their locations on frequencies that ships nav computers understand, very very few would wish to remain hidden.

Planets on the other hand don't give a crap if you know where they are or not.

I would assume that stations and outposts have some form of Vav Beacon built in to make it easier to travel to them; maybe that's why they show up by default. Think of it like the ILS/VOR/ADF systems that planes use today.

Yeah, this seemed odd to me at first too. After thinking, I rationalized it as a sort of marketing technique by the individual stations. You show up in a system, and are greeted with radio transmissions from various stations in the system (nav signals, commercial adverts, etc.). Since radio transmissions are limited by the speed of light, what you get will be fairly old. One handy way around this would be if there were some standardized system where ships travelling near a systems nav beacon (near the primary star, where you arrive in-system) would automatically upload data to the beacon, which would then act as a sort of greeting transponder to other ships arriving. It would be like being handed a tourist brochure when arriving at a new city here on Earth. It would inform you of different restaurants, bars, nightclubs, etc., but probably not tell you about local mountains, lakes and the such.
