Are Thargoid probes still a thing?

I just spent yesterday and this morning looking for a Thargoid probe. I found a probe on the bulk cargo ship in the Delphi system, but after using the hatch break, the door opened but all the cargo just remained inside on would not eject. I had to do the old way and finally found one in a level 7 NHSS.

Just getting one now, in case I need one to get into a base to blast off some Thargoid limbs.

I got mine recently by hatch breaking one of the Megaships - I think it was the Hercules in the Delphi system. A Tharoid spawns there regularly - so watch out...
IIRC, you can pick up dozens at the crashed ship site near Maia. Just drive around the bottom of the hill and they will roll down towards you.

Edit: The probes will spawn at the top of the mountain / hill and will take a little bit of time to bounce their way down (so if you relog to get more, wait a bit). Also, if you watch ObsidianAnt youtuber, Obsidian Orbital in Maia might be worth a visit

Hello Xalos, sorry to be a bit dim, I found Sensors in the centre of the crash-site, we are talking Probes here, right? ...and
Do you mean the pronounced hill in the centre of the crater or the surrounding hills, its black as pitch here.
You won't find probes there... lots of people get confused between sensors and probes.
The only place you can find probes are:
NHSS 5/6/7/8 with an interceptor-only; and
Damaged Megaships (e.g Delphi, though I believe hatchbreaking them is broken... @Factabulous ?)
Post 2 seems to confirm that - plus other reports I've heard. Haven't tried it myself as i stockpiled just in case.

I haven't collected probes, since my 700t (split into multiple runs), Xeno deliveries to Colonia, some time back. Back then I predominantly did the Megaship method. At the rate of, roughly, 1 probe to every 15 (or so) relogs.
The reason I found this thread is because I'm collecting again, but namely to explorore tinfoilry and I can honestly say? NHSS (threat 5), in Delphi, are the way to go. I got 4 probes and two sensors inside an hour. I lost one trying to collect whole under attack, as it appears once you've been scanned they start to just shoot on site, once you've been found to be carrying their tech. So I go to my carrier a system over, and dump them off and rezone back to Delphi.
I went back to test the megaship method and spent an hour and didn't even find one.

Nice! It is said they spawn outside of Ammonia worlds most. Which I believe why Delphi is used.
Witch Head Nebula, you can find Hydras there if you want to collect tissue samples too.
BUT research limpets will fail if thargoid notice it when your limpet finished it task. The tissue will just explode so here is the tip:
To get the tissue samples the thargoid MUST either retract the swarm or beeing in the way to open a hole to witchspace (it won't turn so the limpets won't be broken).

- Head to a NHSSx (x=5,6,7,8) that has the salvage icon at it left (3 icons instead of just one).
- Drop in, deploy hardpoint and step away. The interceptor will run to you for scan (don't be afraid).
- Once he start the scan, NOT BEFORE, NOT AFTER, boost very close to him to trigger the swarm.
- Stay at less than 2km and launch your limpets (they may fail by hitting the swarm).
- Use either heatsinks or silent running BEFORE they attach to the thargoid (i used silent running and deployed heatsink only when at 98% heat in a cold build dbx).
- Because of the distance to the black box you will gain some time
- Once the interceptor finished the scan, the swarm go back in its bu** (because he needs some drugs to heal the corona).
- It will stay idle maybe 5-10sec and then go away (it's an animation so can turn off silent running).
