Are Thargoids going to be isolated to a certain place?

If yes. Then i think this is a huge mistake.
They should be a threat no matter where you are, not just outside the bubble.
from what i have seen read and heard there are two factions of them. one that is going around and killing the other and the other one is running from them. in one of the books they talk about the peaceful side are going to go to the other side of the system from us putting the bubble in the middle of the war. let me say once again this is what i have inferd from some reading and digging around

From what I remember they could appear anywhere in the bubble but not everywhere at the same time.
In other words you have to go to where they currently are doing there stuff to be involved,
and if you don't want to be involved you stay away.

My biggest worry is that Frontier will limit the Thargoid threat to a particular area, like COL 70 Sector, put it behind a permit lock and then limit access to that sector to KS backers, season pass holders and those willing to pay for the next version (i.e. Season, DLC or whatever terminology they come up with). This is my pessimism at work and I really hope they don't go down this road.

Since the Thargoids are the topic of version 2.4 they shouldn't be behind a paywall if you already own Horizons. It will be interesting to see just how much of "The Return" is limited to Horizons players and how much will be accessible to "vanilla" Elite: Dangerous owners.

I don't believe FD would permit lock them.

However, there are newcomers who have not got access to the engineers yet.... so it would be rough if they were meeting hostile Thargs whilst they are in unengineered base ships!
So, it may be that the Thargs move about a bit, but its telegraphed quite clearly. So you have the option to get out the way if you are in a stock Sidewinder. (And know where to go if you want to be vented into space).

I agree that such a core staple of Elite lore and a huge incentive to many such as Thargoids should not be behind any form of paywall, and it is because of this importance that I personally fully believe they WON'T be.
However, I have also read that Thargoid as encounters will be generally by opt-in approach, so those who have no desire to engage them won't necessarily find themselves in such a situation - thoughthiose sdeeking out such circumstance will have an opportunity.

I suspect this may be accomplished through:

1) Particular modules fitted which attract them or prevent them from hyperdicting
2) Confined to broad region

Yes, of course it will be isolated to a certain place. What is the alternative? That these bugs will be simply everywhere?

Of course they shouldn't, are you aware of how big the galaxy is? If they were everywhere, we wouldn't have been able to avoid them so far.

But we'll find out in just a few weeks. :)

Personally I'll just wait for these things and dig deep into it when it happens, then I'll decide whether it's something I like or not.
Way to soon to start making judgement on something we have not seen - as well as too late since FD already have made their narrative, design and implementation.

What I wish from our new friends?
- Too see and play around with them, but also hope to find places I can go so I can have a bit peace & quiet from them.
Wonder what it's going to be like ...

Anyway, I'll take the door to left down the hall here get out and wait for the update instead. o7

FD have already stated that the Thargoids are for everyone. It's not content that you have to pay for, or can opt out by switching out of Horizons.

Whether we need to go looking for them, or not, is a completely separate issue. I'm guessing the centre of the bubble will be safe enough for a while yet.

We already know that our current weaponry is largely if not completely ineffective against them so I doubt our current engineered ships are of much use. That's said, having access to engineers may prove useful in that the engineers will probably take an active role in making new more effective weapons which emerge even better.

Engineer Grind 2.4. [where is it] More grind is not fun and is not emergent gameplay.

Is this one of those "if people interact with them, we will put a little more effort into them" moments.

Personaly have no intrest in another enginer grind just to interact with them and if this is the case then I dont really care where they are as I'll be over there doing my own thing.

Saying that the whole Thargoid thing/story line holds little intrest for me might get around to visting one of those bases one day tho as they do look pretty cool.

They've already said that current weapon technology (engineered or otherwise) is completely ineffective against Thargoids and new types of "anti thargoid" weapons and equipment will be made available.

My guess is that most activity will be in Col 70 and the further you penetrate the harder it will become. Frequent incursions in Maia/Merope areas and occasional incursions at the edge of the bubble. The peaceful Thargoids, if they exist, will be in an area probably somewhere north of the bubble in a permit locked area that can only be accessed by doing missions for Thargoid envoys. My best guess anyway.

Edit: with any luck the battle zone will move depending on kills etc so that indeed the bubble could become overrun.

My vote, after the development of the next bio weapon... is to put the remaining bugs in a zoo. Charge credits for pictures and peanuts for the bugs. Thargoid zoo tycoon!

I hope they'll be able to pop up anywhere in the bubble for at least a limited time.
I also think this can become quite old after a while.

In X2, The Threat, system got attacked by large numbers of alien ships, and this was great at first
But after a few days of playing and building, the game went from The Threat to The Anooyance. Because these invasions kept you from doing what you wanted to do.
