I know that, in previous years, the Golden/Chromed skins were only available during the Christmas season. I haven't played in a while, but I've been logging in to get the 12 Days of Christmas ARX; I saw the metallic skins on the front page of the Frontier store and assumed they were just there for the holiday, but I can't find any mention of that being the case. Are they actually there to stay now, or have I missed an announcement somewhere?

If I wanted to be philosophical, I'd say something like "truth to materials." This is not a display piece; it is a masterfully-engineered machine, elegant in its brutal precision. I want to highlight its mechanical perfection, celebrate it.
But really I've just always loved the look of chrome, polished steel, brushed aluminum. Hematite wrapped in silver wire. Nothing beats the shine of polished metal.
What's really obnoxious, I just discovered, is that the holiday skins aren't in the in-game livery interface. (Until you buy them from a browser, I guess.) I wanted to take a look at what it would look like in-engine, but I can't even do that.
Yes they are, but only for the ships that have been 'revealed' so far. They add skins for around 3 more ships each day
