Are the King Penguin, Giant Otter or Grey Seal going to be the only species of their kind represented in the game?

Are the Aquatic Pack's King Penguin, Giant Otter or Grey Seal going to be the only species of their kind represented in the game for the rest of its lifespan?

Maybe it's too soon to know. I keep my hopes about having a middle-sized Penguin or an Asian Small-clawed Otter in any of the packs, though I wonder where those could fit in and I don't think they're Frontier's priority at the moment. I expect them to add more aquatic species in the future though, and I hope at least one of those will be another pinniped, because it would be pretty disappointing to have a seal but not a Sea Lion.

What's funny is that most of the time, we're worried about Frontier only adding species that are too similar to ones we already have. But in this case, it's the exact opposite.

Not being judgmental or anything, I totally agree-- I mean it would be super weird to have so few animals that work together in an aquatic section... but then like five kinds of African antelope and four mountain-dwelling bears.

Luckily, given Frontier's track record, similar-looking animals are probably on their way. ;) I definitely expect the sea lion at some point. And wouldn't be surprised to see one more penguin, a different kind of otter (sea otter seems most likely to me, for diversity's sake) and maybe a BIG pinniped like the walrus.

Note: the five antelope I'm talking about are nyala, bongo, sable, gazelle and springbok. And the bears are grizzly, Himalayan, panda and Formosan. Just showing my receipts, lol

Let's be real here, none of those antelope are really that similar except the gazelle and springbok, and with the bears it's only the grizzly and Himalayan that are a real problem. The panda isn't really comparable at all and the Formosan is also completely different. I say this because the game still needs more antelope and more bears (the sun bear would be a great addition, and I'd take the spectacled bear, too, if we had enough time).

Of course, I understand your point. Thinking back, though, beyond the Arctic wolf the worst culprits have all been in the base game. 😅

Oh yeah, agree. I wasn't complaining about those animals being in game, or anything. I was more talking about what kind of zoo areas we can build with them. Sable, Springbok, Gazelle, and Nyala can all be mixed and matched with our many large African herbivores, for example. So many combinations to choose from! But for an aquatic area that makes sense, we've pretty much got:

A - polar bear, seal, and penguin

B - caiman, otter, jaguar, flamingo

C - hippo, saltie croc, gharial, elephant, flamingo

(A and C don't even entirely make sense, these are just based on combos I see in zoos that work pretty well.)

Then again, this is a problem in the game for pretty much everything other than African and Asian animals.

Humboldt Penguins could fit in a South America Coast Pack or an Aquatic Expansion Pack, Asian Small-Clawed Otters could feature in a Greater Asia Pack or a Fan Favourite Pack, I just mention this thread because the species I mention are quintessential species for zoos, particularly zoos I am familiar with, Australian zoo layouts, particularly the major zoos, house the Asian Small-Clawed Otter and Little Penguin, and single representation of diverse groups such as pinnipeds, penguins and otters would be a little poor in my opinion

There is absolutely no reason to think that they would be the only representatives of their respective taxa. The same question was asked after the SA pack,... I.e. ‘are these the only South American animals we’ll ever get’ (although it was often an assumption rather than a question).

It also sounds a bit unlogic. Putting a lot of time and effort in this and only for 4 animals.

I sure how they're not the only species of their kind of animal. I'd love to have three of each of otters, seals and penguins.

Agree, I can't imagine that they'd make too many rigs that they can only get one use out of (without major manipulation). The only animal I could see them really doing that for is a giraffe. Very different from everything else out there, but way too iconic not to include.

I actually think the giraffe and okapi use the same base-rig. They are related and behave very similarly, so it wouldn't surprise me.
