Are the Ramming NPC's Back or is it Just Me

Started yesterday, close calls with security ships boosting by, and eventually one smashed into my Corvette, no damage, the imbecilic NPC survived and I got a 235CR fine for flying straight, slow and level.

Today same thing, security ships boosting by REAL CLOSE to my ship.

Hope this isn't a thing again.

It's not just you. I've found it rarer than it was before FD finally acknowledged that it's happening, but it never went away completely.

I assume that they thought they overcorrected and are adding a bit of scan and ram back in. Shame. They never fixed it completely to begin with.

I still see the tendency for those ships to fly too close. It seems they only make physical contact if you are over the speed limit for the station. As long as you just stay at 99, even on the rare chance they still manage to run into you, you won' get dinged.

I had an Anaconda try to mate with my Beluga on the way out of a station yesterday...I was minding my own business, just heading out, and suddenly something slammed me into the side of the mailslot and held me there. Once I got free, there was a Conda shoving its way past me. So, I let the idiot go, then followed it out....

They even ram the station itself, funny to go to the mailslot hearing a big "dong" on your way and see a ship spinning around after kissing the wall. :D
The funniest one I ever saw was a sidewinder entering the mailslot spinning end over end after clipping the toastrack.

It started to happen a lot to me recently. Police scan me then proceed to ram me (at a station)... and it somehow my fault and I get a reckless flying fine.

They've been back ever since 2.4 went live. Whenever most NPC's scan other ships they now fly straight at them, and if the scan doesn't finish before they get there then they tend to collide with their scanning target. If the scan completes before impact then they veer away, or sometimes they will instead just barely miss, in which case they will simply turn around and start in again, often resulting in the NPC doing a bunch of consecutive near misses as they desperately try to finish their scans.

It's a very bad bug, and I wish Frontier would make it a priority to fix it ASAP. But here we are months into 2.4 so we're likely stuck with it until the Q1 2018 update.

Yes, I've noticed this as well. Sometimes, it's a huge Anaconda then the next, it's an Eagle or Viper blasting just past my windshield. Was trying to scoop some materials today and no soon as I was lined up, a Conda pushed me out of the way.

The AI would appear to have been tweaked so that some of the NPC ships are more aggressive in their flying, and are quite happy to get close and personal before taking evasive action.

Ive noticed it in res sites as well as in and around space stations. They are quite comfortable flying close to other ships be they manned or just NPC.

From my own perspective so far the ships have just zoomed close by and swerved to avoid me at the last second. In the past they just flew straight at you and collided.

Personally think the behaviour is more human in that some AI appear cocky and aggressive while others are timid.

You see that also in NPC pirate attacks. Some will go all guns in and others will run when taking damage.

I quite like it. They are usually easy enough to avoid, and add a bit of a fun distraction when you aren't paying attention.

I find it quite amusing, it's when wannabe combat commanders do it to new players outside a star port I find it a tad distasteful

Those bloody trolls.

They are absolutely incapable of defending you against any threat. Then they scan-ram you just before the mail slot and make your passengers unhappy, because you have commited a crime. (But that was quite amusing I admit [big grin])

SCRAMMING and fighting only when a commander is stationary, seem to be a consequence of the recent docking module "improvements".

Between AI that decide to climb into your glovebox in order to scan, and AI that refuse to fight (and wander about 3-4 km away) until you are stationary, I am about done with the truly awful state of AI. And that wound won't heal, because the AI has to be more competent; which we cannot have because it makes them too hard.

I think Frontier, honestly, have given up. I can't see the AI improving any time soon, because this will cause drama. Again. They seem to be putting the effort for AI into thargoids. Everything else is stale or broken because Frontier cannot fix it. Catch-22.

Thank god he hasn't been paying enough attention to notice that that was me trying to get him to comment on my commander's hair by pressing our two cockpits together or this would be another griefers in Open thread.

I hate it, at least i don't like to be punished when NPC hit me in the rear.
Frontier should make npc ships communicate each other, because i'm been scanned by every ship around station, and usaly one of them hit me in the rear when i'm 5-7 km away from station and half way charging FSD.
Frontier should check speed differences when collide is to be happen and punish only the ship that has greater speed.
My conda has boost speed ~240 m/s and npc speed is around 400-700 m/s. I don't mind if they hit my shields, but i hate that they hit my wallet.

!! Stop Wallet hits from the rear !!
