General / Off-Topic Are there any accurate, decent quality USB moon lamps that you'd recommend?

I got one as a gift, and it's basically just a lumpy ball and not accurate at all. Not to mention the box said "see real moon look" and "charge again plug in".

I just keep it on the floor next to my bed and use it so I don't stub my toe in the dark. I've spent awhile looking through pictures and maps and found no similarity. Are there any that are higher quality ones, that can function as a moon atlas? There are dozens upon dozens available, and the quality is questionable. I've seen some that have the Sea of Tranquility and the other basalt seas, and looks cool with the light on, but the seas just have thicker plastic and doesn't accurately follow the topology or the coloring of the moon. Are there any accurate moon lamps?

What is a moon lamp?

Genuine question here.

Enter "Moon lamp Image" in Google, and you'll know.

:)

There is this on Amazon - good reviews but I don't know how accurate it is.

Otherwise you are talking over a hundred squid for a 30cm photo-detailed lit one, not contoured and not USB powered I believe.

I have often toyed with the idea of buying one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/MOVA-Moon-4-5-Globe-MG-45-MOON/dp/B008Y52NCG/ they are not lit but these Mova globes are quite neat, rotating within their sphere - but the moon one looks to have issues with the "equator" and looks very dull, the Jupiter one looks great but they are all expensive.

Of course if you have money to burn there is the Kickstarter "Moon" like on here (they are not internally lit):

that's indeed nice, but wonder why not have a version/mode where the moon rotates and the leds stay fixed, so it would double as a really cool lamp (without having a sort of disco-ball permanently in the room).

Personally I wouldn't consider £450 just for the moon, never mind the cost of the "sun" version. The idea there is that the "sun" moves round at the correct speed to illuminate the moon model exactly the same as the real one is at that time. (You can make it go round faster if you want.)

I am not endorsing the product, just addressing the "realism" aspect the OP was referring to.
