Are there any 'defend against the Thargoids' missions?

I am in the Cheneredawa system where the Tarentum City coriolis station is located. There are Thargoid scout USSs in the area. Maybe the Thargoids are going to attack Tarentum City? Who can know the mind of a bug?

But what I don't know is why there are no missions at Tarentum City asking us to defend it from the Thargoids. Are there such missions somewhere else? If not, why not?

There are suppose to be some that you can get from rescue ships or so I've read. However, I have yet to find anything that will hand out missions to attack the Thargoids...

Ok, well, there is really no reason to attack the Thargoids then. The money is terrible; just enough to pay for repairs. The 'goids drop some mats but I don't yet know where we need them. As far as I know, killing Thargoids does not change whether they successfully destroy a station or "take" a system.

I just want to know why I should bother attacking Thargoids; I want to know why I should care. I thought maybe missions were a reason.
